Description
Anyone with a spine knows that this has gotten out of hand. Bitch machines think they have a right to shut other people up because they are (way too easily) offended. It is not right that one has to speak in the same way as one walks through a mine field. Every word could possibly offend someone. You know what? It's not right. I won't even get into the stupid specific sugar-coatings that go around because it'd be so much that dA would explode when you opened this page. Words are simply a translation of the mind. Getting rid of the words does not get rid of the ideas, so why bother? Stop trying to control everything.
One day, I got a bit of a sting when I had to pause to think of the right non-offensive word to say. That was when I let go and started talking freely. Have you had your turning point yet?
_____________
I've been wanting to make a poster about this subject for a while; I got the idea one day, and decided that it was perhaps the best approach. Like I always say, seemed like a good idea at the time.
I drew the shape in vector and then the specific letters accordingly with the pen tool. Come to think of it......this is perhaps my first 100% vector piece.
After the vector was done, I was ready to add some slogans and different color bars for the title and all. But I quickly grew tired of those and felt they were unnecessary. It started to look more like a book cover than a poster. So I decided to strip everything (as they say, less is more) and leave the vector, the main message, and enough hints to realize that the "politically correct" is about to eat shit.
Lighten up, grow a thicker skin, speak freely, and

I think the state should censor itself when it comes to those issues. Having the government spew hate speech is not right, especially since it's supposed to be a logical, neutral entity.
But for the others, then there's a difference. I think that speech is merely an expression of the mind. You can shut off the speech, but that won't change the mind. The mind is the root, and thats the only thing that can truly change speech. Besides, we know what we humans do when we're prohibited something.
Still, I think that a thorough conversation aboutt this cannot be compacted into a few comments, but we're pretty much on the same page (or so it seems from here!).

did you see the memri "9-11, 5 years later in arab countries and iran" document?
i'm at a point where i'm really worried of what i've seen and what seems to be a somewhat supportive(!) response by western media... (and i'm not even talking about abab media). i'm really confused by stations/agencies such as the BBC, Reuters etc. who echo "resistance jihadi" lies with no accountability... it's far better for ratings so why should they give a damn.
but i totally hear you on the personal level... individuals should have freedom... i'm just really really worried about the 'hate-speech lies' levels that are allready out there... even here on dA.

You make it seem as if censorship is a bad thing. Well, it's not. It's an amazing and beautiful thing, and I don't know what we would do without it.
You have the freedoms given by the First Amendment, if you're here in the US. But you DON'T have the freedom to go off spouting cuss words at every Joe and his brother who get on your nerves. You don't get to use cuss words freely around, say, hmm, anyone? Unless everyone around you has made it clear that they don't mind your offensive comments (in which case it's not offensive), you DON'T get to use such words! Censorship rules, man. Without censorship, we'd be a low-tech, barbaric country slinging the verbal equivalent of animal dung at anything and everything. There ARE things you can and can't say. Just because YOU feel the need to cuss doesn't mean you can. Besides, most cussers have a tendency to have a higher rate of being violent. Censorship helps everything.

You're missing the point by miles.
The point is that the standard for "cuss" words keeps getting changed and words that were ok yesterday are now somehow offensive today. Plus there's the stupid idea that if you dont say something, you somehow don't think it. Ridiculous. Censorship rules? Yea, literally, which is why it's a bad thing when taken overboard.
Some people don't have a clue...

Yes, it's bad when taken overboard. If you find a case of that, please let me know! I've yet to see a case where censorship is taken overboard.
For instance, what are some of these words that used to be unoffensive and are today? All the words I've seen dubbed as offensive were done so rightly.

An assload, lets see. I'll shoot you five right now. I'll write how it was said before, and how it was pussified now.
Stewardess, flight attendant
Black, African American
Retarded, mentally challenged
Crippled, handicapped
Old, senior
There are plenty more out there, but hey if you don't care, then more power to you. There are many of us who dont like our speech to get manipulated by oversensitive sheep.

Well, some words I view as offensive not because they're "bad words" necessarily, but because they have cruel meanings towards some. For instance, "Black" seems a very cruel word to describe African Americans, so I always avoid using that term. I do, also, consider all of these words that the public calls "cuss words" to be exactly that. Maybe, at the time, they had non-offensive meanings, but the meanings we've applied to them makes them inappropriate for public use.

Alright so you think black is an offensive way to describe african americans? What about black people in other countries? They are certainly not african american, are they! And go to many other countries, see if they call them "african british" or "african italian." And why should it stop with them? I dont hear much "italian-american," "mexican-american," and "argentinean american" going on.

I wasn't talking about dark-skinned folk of other ethnicities, now was I? No, I was talking about African-Americans. It's rude to call them blacks. And you must forgive me...I've never heard of African-British or African-Italian people.

By that rationale, it's also rude to call white people white. Do you agree?

I agree wholeheartedly. "White" people should be called caucasian. That's what I call them (and myself, seeing as I am caucasian myself.).

ok i`ve read through your two`s conversation, one thing to pick up on the thematic of the "african-americans": In germany there is Gerald Asamoah, one player of the national soccerteam. I overheard an interview with him on teleivision where he referred to himself (and others) as black. The interview was recorded after a game of the fifa worldcup and was therefore broadcasted nationwide.
I don`t and never did notice a strong discussion about the polically correctness of "black" and "white" in germany. "Black" isnt taken as offensive here.

Just because a famous person does or says something doesn't mean it's right. All I'm saying is that when I hear the words "black" or "white" describing someone, I find it offensive. It's like labelling people.

I'm not allowed to say "white board" anymore, or "blackboard", it's the chalk board now kids! I hate people being PC, it's so... gay (woops, better take cover now).
Seriously though, every PC statement that I've ever heard off is completely pointless and causes more confusion than the original statement causes offense. Why sacrifice communication for confusion?
Oh well, it's not like anyone is going to sew my mouth shut

People should speak more freely! I have muttered the true feelings for those obnoxiously loud stupid people who are always in front of me at the store and they look at me with a blank expression, as if to say you did not just say that to me....
Oh yes....oh yes i did...I did say it to you...
and you know what...? people are not trying to run me down, or hit me, I only get stared at when i say it OUTLOUD ! and I feel so much better. Its kinda refreshing.

i have a couple friends that take offense to a lot of things, and i also hae a friend from a different country that i have to be careful around with some nation jokes and what not.
this seems like some kind of ad or something that one might see while browsing through a magazine (sorta like those subtle looking anti-drug ads)
i feel you are one of the few that can truly be called a genius...because this is so brilliant with it's simple yet loud message to the masses. awesome work

It's just all about that moment when you snap and realize you're letting yourself be controlled by oversensitive people. Just as it's not right to purposedly say offensive things, it's not right to try to find offense in everything, especially because it's so easy to find: Like say, I can be offended by asphalt: Yo why does the asphalt have to be black? Oh so that the white man can step on it!"
It's just way out of hand right now. Bleh

Dude...I wouldn't even say they're offended. They like being control freaks about everything. I encounter it every fucking day, and it pisses me off to no end. I'm suprised I didn't get expelled or even suspended from my school last semester for making smartass and politically incorrect comments. I'm not racist, but I'll sure as hell crack racist jokes.
Come to think of it, South Park is probably one of the few shows that have reached political incorrectness "nirvana", so to speak. But even people working on the show (that guy who plays Chef *ehem*) get offended by dumb stuff. I like your view on this whole thing. Political correctness fucks up the game more than a drunk rap...whatever that's supposed to mean.
I had some other stuff to say...but I forgot it all, and I must say it was pretty insightful...I am pretty insightful when I think about it...humble too...
Man, fuck this!! I got all politically correct on my MySpace to please all my Christian friends...that's such popularity bull shit. Fuck those Christian friends of mine, I'm gonna do what I want. Speak mah mind, brovuh!!!
