Description Another piece for the new year (i'm on a roll, aren't I?) this one was actually drawn before the new year, but i only got around to coloring it today. Hope you all don't mind, heh.

I wanted to try some paper like texture creation for this piece, hopefully its not too cheesy and you guys will forgive me. I'm still on this bright pink and other bright colors binge, so i apologize for that as well.

hope you all like it.

You'd think that people would've learned by now and stopped trying to kill this guy, since it's almost always going to end in failure and sliced body-parts...

would you mind revealing some of you coloring process and how you set up the color halftone?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

dio-03 In reply to estaff [2011-01-12 20:27:02 +0000 UTC]

not at all, if you notice though the color half-tone is only in the sky and very subtly applied. the drawing was pencilled and inked traditionally and then scanned, so in Photoshop, playing with layers, i color the sky as i would normally, then duplicate that layer, applying the color halftone filter and lowering the opacity to an almost invisible 10-15%.

This is really astonishing work, pro one, nothing to say, except this means war

You are definitively going somewhere, let's keep it up that way!

Do you plan to attend an art school or anything?

i'm getting my bachelors in plastic arts (or fine arts, or whatever) but beyond that i don't think i plan on going to any other schools for masters programs or anything. I just want to draw comics as quickly as possible. hehe.

Did it ever not mean war, geoffo? : ) I think you and me and a large group of other artist as part of the next generation. we are contemporaries that will keep moving in parallel lines towards the world of comics and story telling through art in general. you'll see.

All right, at first I didn't had any real plan of starting a school, but my writer friend told me I should do one, at least for general stuff (such as perspective, anatomy). And eventually I decided to go for the full formation (in 3 years), so far, no deception, and a real appreciation from the professionals (did you make a school was the first question).

Just saying I you have time and money to do it, I think you should do it, even for one year. At the same time, I'm working on 3 comics projects (with, let's hope will be paid.

Plus, going in a school help you create a network (more than internet where people come and go)and working in the art fields at several level with the diploma you'll get, more than just comics.

Still, I definitively think that with your style and your experience you'll succeed. School is a bonus.

Thanks and yes, I agree for being the next generation. Hard worker is always rewarded at some point, I'm seeing it right now

I'm going to see if the opportunity comes up, though money is very very tight at the moment. Its nice to see your first hand experience on the subject and it's really helpful so that at least i make an informed decision.

Can't wait to see what those comic book projects are, and if you get paid, even better.

Eventually, when we're working comic book artists we'll be able to meet up at conventions and things like that, but before all that we need to get those first gigs to get us moving forward.

My pleasure pal
Yeah, school was also made because I could (well, my parents and I could ahah) afford it, and I don't know if you have good art school around where you are. But overall, yeah I think the network is one of the best part (on the afterschool situation I mean), because you have "inside network", the students with you, and the reputation of the school. "Oh yeah, you did this one they have nice reputation" and so on.

Comic book project, one is for an american publisher (but I have to hurry a little more sigh, the two others are for France. But this is really hard to combine school and comic books. But also very cool

Indeed my friend, let's produce and get famous so we can have a coffee together

No WAY man. I love your pinup stuff. Its so much fun, and just always reminds me of the REALLY talented innovative and alternative artists out there, that might not have the HUGE fan base, but the LOYAL fan base. I say keep doing what your doing and bag the disclamers.
