Description For all intents and purposes this is basically an elaborate European 4-in-1 weave. Unlike Euro 4-in-1 it's movement is obviously affected by the scales, which provide some gorgeous movement and dimensional studies that can be hypnotising. This section, like the trinity patch, is part of a larger project I'm currently working on.

this piece is just an experimental patch. It currently is of itself. The RingLord has instructions on their website for constructing scale maille using jump rings and single-hole punched scales.

nice found a lot of prices, but not so much explanation as to how to make the scales

The assembly instructions are at the top just below banner & stats. There's a square image of a sheet of large scales on top of a sheet of small scales preceeding it.

So, how is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

disscordia In reply to Envelope587 [2007-08-13 17:05:56 +0000 UTC]

slowly progressing. Scale working is something i do in my off-time, waiting for trains and such and therefore not a high priority. But I do have the other sleeve, a patch for the back and the bottom hem done. Let's hope it doesn't need much tailoring in the end ^.^

What's the scale size? I think R.L. has two.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

disscordia In reply to Envelope587 [2007-06-06 05:06:12 +0000 UTC]

these are the smaller ones. Stainless. the rings in the lower-right hand corner are 5/16" 16 ga, I think. Don't hold me to that - I'll deny it all in court!

I love the finish that you got on it, what is the material made out of?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

disscordia In reply to aperfectnightmare [2007-02-09 18:21:37 +0000 UTC]

It's stainless steel in the sunlight. Nothing fancy added or photo-tweaked.

This is beautiful, I hope you'll continue to play with these.... All I can think is that it's got to be gorgeous live. The shape and the lighting are wonderful - what's this sitting on, or was this a patch you did for experimentation's sake?

Erm... sorry, I meant to hit preview, not send, else I wouldn't have made the mistake of asking a question you already answered. X.x I do wonder what the project is, though.

disscordia In reply to cwicseolfor [2007-02-07 07:10:45 +0000 UTC]

no problem. I'm holding it in my hand, which is what's causing the interesting curve in this picture. The ultimate piece will be a shirt out of this and the trinity weave, which i suspect will weigh in like a mofo ^_^

But it'll easily be the crown of the collection, no? It'd certainly make a killer costume...
You remind me: my school's Gaelic Cultural Society (sometimes more aptly the pan-period European Society) is doing our annual Chainmaille night soon... maybe this year I'll actually derive some benefit from devoting an hour or so to learning and be able to make something...
