Description More practicing with shading/anatomy. I think I did a lot better this time than last time. Followed a more 'painted' style. Still think its lacking something but I'm failing to see what, so as always, critique is welcome!

I'm still rather impressed with how well I did despite it still seeming muddy.

Hello! I would like to say that this piece is good overall and I have just a few things here and there to critique. First of all I think the strongest point of your art is your shading and coloring whereas the weaker point would be lineart. For painting styles like yours I suggest that since your coloring skills are very strong you try and find a way to make the lineart not pop out against it so much, like making it a color closer to the persons skin so the sketchy lines dont stand out as much. The way you colored the hair in particular does weel to make it look like individuals strands. I suggest looking up references for women with large eyes next time you make a painting like this as its very hard to get right without the eyes coming off as creepy or childlike when compared to the rest of the persons features. Good work !!!

Oh my gosh thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I have a hard time with my lineart but I'm trying to somehow make it better! Thank you very much for your feedback!

Hi :v first of all nice work, I especially like what you did to the hair. I have several suggestion though
1. Start your coloring proccess with a dark background. Paint with a grayscale color pallette to get the values right. To get the values right, use tons of reference.
2. Color the lineart for much better realism
3. Practice your anatomy. Another good trick is to clip your canvas horizontally to immediately notice the proportion distrotion

The most important thing is use reference from photos, or tutorials from youtube videos. Those will help you a LOT
Thanks :3 hope that helps

Hello! First off, nice job with the drawing, and the hair looks great; not too much detail, but just enough. The improvements that I would make are: add a bit more shading and determine your light source. You can instantly create more depth which makes pieces more interesting and believable. For me, I would add the shading more to the left side, especially where the bangs would be making a little shadow. I noticed the hair line is a little lighter too where the hair connects with the face, you generally want this darker, or at least the same as the forehead. I am not sure how you paint but I usually paint the hair on a separate layer so I can get close without worrying about ruining it . Lastly, I would blend just a little more, I know a lot of artists like to use the air brushes for skin (which is fine), but I found actually painting with a hard round brush at around 60% opacity is more controllable and gives a more realistic feel. It's all up to you and your style great job and remember, you can only get better, not worse.

Thank you so much~!

I made the mistake of using a reference (That i forgot to link oops) that doesn't have very pronounced lighting. Which i should have known better haha.
I made the hair, on a different layer yes, but I think I got a bit lazy about coloring it oopsy.

I was afraid to blend too much. I felt if I did then it would become even more muddy. It's funny because I second guessed myself and turned the opacity down on the shading layer feeling it was too harsh. Perhaps the color was just wrong. hmm. Also, I use an 'acrylic' brush, at 70'something opacity, as I prefer to be able to blend afterwards, i feel it gives more control

Thank you so so much! Your comments, critique, and encouragement mean so much too me.

The general proportions are very good, especially the jaw and nose. The eyes hit me as a weaker part of the drawing, looking a bit too big. As for the shading, it's pleasantly soft. I especially like the chin's highlight. However, right now it seems the face is evenly lit on all sides. To add depth, it could be good to see more where the light comes from. It could be lit from one side, from above, from below... I think a portrait would usually have the light coming diagonally slightly from above, casting heavy shadows below the jawline. You could also bump the saturation and make the shadows darker for more contrast. Still, overall fairly good facial proportions, and very smooth shading~ Hope you keep at it! : D

I started with an anime style, very anime, so I'm having a hard time straying wway from that with the large eyes. I do like a larger eye style, but I too feel that even if they were smaller they relaly were a weak point. I should do more eye studies perhaps.

The shading layer is actually very dark, and i turned down the opacity. I turned it down too far I think though, as I may have had it at a more saturated level initially.
I was afraid I overblended so I'm glad you think its nice! I will definitely work on light sources!

thank you so much! Critiques and encouragement mean so much to a learning artist like me ;u;
