Description This is another thing that aggravates me. I live in Japan, and the Majority of young western people who visit or move here are here because they like anime. It gives western people a bad name.

There is SOOOO much that makes Japan better. The sense of community, the culture, the language, the architecture, the food, the economy, the lifestyle, etc. It really sells Japan short by liking it because your favorite Anime takes place there >.> That's a horrible reason.

For those of you who TRULY want to move to Japan, I recommend this: Visit there for about 1 month. And no where nice, some outskirt city and commute places. Why? Because Japan is NOTHING like Western Culture and is an Acquired taste for some. Also, when you visit places like Kyoto and Tokyo for a short time, you get the sense of Awe and place Japan on a pedestal.

All I can say is:

Try it, before you buy it.
Don't Sell Japan short of what it is.

I wanted to visit it for that reason. Now I wanna try the food. And of course look at the lovely landscapes.

I actually like their customs and traditions...
it will never, ever be better than my own heritage though.

Yea. Korean culture is pretty interesting. Despite it being tarnished with large amounts of tragedy.

my mom has always acted bitter about japan
I saw a picture of where my mom and brother lived when before I was born
basically two shacks with no doors and charcoal briquettes stacked outside one of the doors.
I saw that picture and I was like..
WOAH, why am I reminded of africa?!

I agree with this 100%

This girl in my Girl Scout troop just joined us recently and she's an anime freak, and everything that we talk about related to enviromental change or whatever, she always has to bring up Japan or something from Japan, and it's so irritating. Before I even knew what anime was, I always wanted to travel to Japan based on the stories my mother used to tell me about her stay in Okinawa.
It really gives me, as a fan of anime, a bad rep, because I wasnt to visit because of their culture and the natural enviroment(like Mt. Fuji), not because I want some anime souviners...

I went to Japan about three years ago as part of a language study. I'd love to go back not for the anime, it was fun to browse around Akihabara but the rural parts of Japan have gorgeous natural scenery I'd love to get photos of now that I got my good camera instead of the dinky digital one I went with.

Yay! This is good. I admit, I LOVE Anime, but I love ancient cultures more. And I love to study about places. This is one of the reasons I love Japan, the architecture and culture are just so beautiful. Not to mention the peoples are gorgeous as well!! hehe I'm Native American and German and I understand how it gets to have people put your heritage into this little box of misconceptions. You have no idea how many people think I know how to do a Rain Dance!? And they ask, so do you like Strudel and Bratwurst? And yes, I like both but that has nothing to do with my German heritage! It's just yummy food! That said, what's with all the anime freaks who eat Sushi just because it's mentioned in an anime? Sushi is yucky! And I don't say this just because I'm allergic to fish, lol I just generally don' like it. My fiance is also a big anime fan, but he got into anime after getting into Japanese culture. He loves anything to do with Samurais and Martial Arts. And Swords, he loves swords of any nature. We plan to visit one day when we're married, but we want to go to the country and experience a Sakura Blossom Festival. It just looks so gorgeous. They have them here where we live too though. We live in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. and we have a Sister City in Japan, I can't recall the name of it though lol. I ranted a lot... sorry? Still I love this stamp and I wish I could use stamps in my journal cause I'd so post it!

The sister city for portland oregon? I'd say, maybe Nagasaki. That'd be my guess.

As for cherry blossom festival, come the 1st-3rd week in April.

Thanks for the love. I really hope this helps get the word out there for people.

No it's not Nagasaki. Hold on let me look. I just saw a special on Tourist attractions for their on T.V. the other night lol. Ahh I found it! it's Sapporo and Hokaido! Here's a list, a lot of our cities have sister cities in Japan.

We also have one of the largest Japanese Gardens in the U.S. There are a lot of Japanese who come here for school too! And Hokaido is one of the places my fiance and I want to go one day.

I agree. I love anime, but I Japan and anime are on different levels. I respect that you came up with this. I'm mexican-american, but I truly appreciate the culture and the language and the different sounds. My love for Japan is a cry from the love i harbor for anime.

I agree with you. Personally I would love to visit Japan, but it is because I like to take photos of interesting places, and it has nothing to do with Anime!
