Description Edit: I would LOVE to add more games to this stamp. However, I've lost the PSD or overwritten it somehow so I'd have to make an entire new stamp, and to be honest I dont feel I need to right now.
But! Leave the games you'd like to see added in the comments and when I do remake it, I'll have a look at including it!

I HATE HATE HATE it when people write off a game because it's not realistic enough.
Most of you know this already to be my most HATED thing of all time. Other than cheese.
People dont like Wind Waker, Mario, Okami, Pokemon etc because the graphics dont show up every hair folicle on the goddam face.
There's a time and place and genre for realistic games.
I dont hate realism, my goodness, I love Resident Evil for gods sake.
But because people bitch too much about unrealistic graphics, here's my opinion about it.

My biggest irk is Wind Waker. It is probably one of the TOP Zelda games, and yet people look down on it because of it being cel shaded. It is a stunning game.

Thank god for games such as the upcoming Tales of Vesperia and the recently released Madworld.
And where would we be without Pokemon? It's a revolutionary RPG beneath the childish demeanor, changing the ye olde Black Magick/White Magicke fantasy RPG entirely.

Dont anyone start bitching onto me about how lame I am for not liking realism in games.
I do like realism in games, but I hate it when people cant open their eyes to other types of graphics.

That is all!

The games, in animated order are...

Wind Waker, Blue Dragon, Mario (SSBB), Phoenix Wright, Okami, Super Paper Mario, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen, Star Ocean Till the End of Time, Madworld and finally, Tales of Vesperia.

I couldn't agree more with this. As a child, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door captivated me. Everything in that game was overflowing with character, from bustling Rogueport to the mesmerising Boggly woods. The characters were so full of personality, and the storyline enthralled me, it was one of the best games I have ever played. And yet it was far from realistic. I'm not saying I don't appreciate more realistic games too, but just as much can be conveyed by cell shading as it can by realistic, HD graphics. In the end it's about the gameplay, not how the game looks

Spyro and Sonic count right?
yeah that really does in fact piss me off everyone only cares about graphics nowadays if they were a true gamer they wouldn't care gameplay matters

Too many gamers these days have become graphic whores! I don't care about HD graphics in games, because I want to be reminded that I'm playing a video game, and not watching a freaking movie!
Graphics don't make the game. Just looks at the classic NES, SNES, and N64 games, they still hold up even today. Yeah they may not be the best, but they are great games.
Wind Waker is one of the best Zelda titles ever, it's an amazing game. But people overlook games like this, because they are too blinded by COD, and Halo....
(end of rant)

Yeah, when Ocarina of Time came out, the graphics were AWESOME, at least for that time period. People seem to forget that other games besides Call of Duty exist. CoD is alright, but... it can never compete with Zelda. NEVER.

Realistic graphics are nice, but they're getting kinda overdone, and with modern HD graphics, and stuff, we're reaching a point where video game graphics arn't going to look much "better," or "realistic" then they already do.
As somebody who's first console was the 8-bit NES & 16-bit SNES back in the '90s, I have to say I'll take "expressionism" over "realism" any day when it comes to graphics.

I liked Windwaker to. In fact, I was one of the few people who actually liked the graphic style back when it was first shown, instead of being upset by it. (I mean in a way it looked like a 3D version of "Link to the Past" which looked pretty cartoony to looking back on it.)
In fact, the animations, character expressions/behavior, and physics/movements seemed more "realistic" to me then the N64 Zeldas. So in some ways it was more "realistic." (I also liked how Link would look at nearby things in the game, wich also helped offer a clue to some puzzles.)
In fact, if you look at the other more "realistic" Zeldas, even they have some "expressionistic/stylish/cartoony" characters, and such in them. (Like say big cartoon noses, big eyes, odd proportions, or something.) I like how they mix a li'l cartoonyness in with the realism in Zelda personally, even in the more "realistic" games.

Y'know, a friend of mine refused to play Windwaker for several years, just because they didn't like the graphic/art style. Then when they finally played it, they loved the game, and even ended up liking the graphic style.

Totally. If I wanted OMG REALISM I'd look out my window. I prefer stylized graphics~ Besides, too much realism leads to the uncanny valley... Creepy.

I actually prefer games like this than "OMGUSHSERREALISTIM"

I guess I just don't like seeing graphics which I see pretty much all my life! XD

I'm not going to lie, realistic games do NOT appeal to me. Especially games that put the graphics in grey-scale and call it realistic, which is actually a large amount of "realistic" games.

oh that sucks. :/ Hope you find it soon.

I have the Phoenix Wright trilogy on Wii Ware (Well at least the second and third) I've sold the first one because I didn't enjoy it very much but I think I'm kinda regretting that now because I've decided that I want the whole Phoenix Wright trilogy for my 3DS and finding used copies of those games around my place is so darn difficult. :/

I have Apollo justice and Miles Edgeworth Investigations for my 3DS which I'm more than happy with because their my two most favourites out of the series, but I will still try to get my hands on the phoenix wright trilogy before the Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton crossover comes out.

The actual DS carts are soooo hard to get, it took me and my friend many many months and years to collect each one each.
Now that I've gone and lost one I'm soo angry haha!

I was going to get them on Wiiware but when I found out Rise from the Ashes was EXTRA. Like, no thnx.

Yeah, I've found two used copies of Justice for All once at a store when I wanted to get Apollo Justice but I didn't buy them because I was content with having it on Wii Ware. the very next day when I changed my mind and decided to get it portable anyway, they were both gone. Yeah... If you see a copy of Ace Attorney buy it as soon as possible. xD

Yeah that's the exact reason why I avoided buying that one from the Wii Ware store.

Lol I feel you. BUT realism makes the games exploration sooooooooooooo much better! By a long shot! toon link is suppose to look like that. ITS TOONY and CUTE! Same with Mario. He's suppose to appeal to kids. when you get games like TOV and compare it to FF XIII or Skyrim, It looks like BS! I don't know if the tales games are trying to appeal to gamers or anime lovers..if anime lovers than there doing great.(sort of..not in the US) Even so the graphics should have looked like SO4. that is beauty. The characters still look toony yet in a world of Realism. lets face it, your never going to get that AWWWW feeling from playing a toony game. When the graphics looks as good as FF XIII or SO4 you will be going AWWWW a lot. You will understand if you played games like FF XIII or SO4. You seem to like SO so check out SO4. Its your perfect "you know its a JRPG game"

Wind Waker, a few of the Mario games, Pokemon and all them had GREAT graphics in my opinion. Actually all the Zelda games had good graphics. Graphics shouldn't matter in a video game though, if you turn down a game because the graphics look bad you might miss out on a really good game right?

GTA 4 is the worst victims ever of excessive Realism: one bullet in the foot can instantly kills Niko Bellic, main character can't sprint longer than real people, and so on

Ahh I played a lot of the games you listed. I think all the unrealism is cute especially on the 90s (Hello PS1 and N64 though I don't have the latter)

Sometimes realism is just not a very good idea. Could end up ruining everything else (Looks at Simon the Sorcerer 4 on Youtube yeesh. My favourite was the 'oh so ugly' 3)

I've been arguing with my friend forever over whether Skyward Sword or Skyrim is better. I actually said once that Skyward Sword's graphic's were better because they were unique and looked like a painting, but she wouldn't listen.
SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER.

ditto9 In reply to MunchingRabbit [2011-12-03 21:53:32 +0000 UTC]

SHUN THEMMM
Fff No, Skyward Sword is a prime example of beautiful video games, and proof that reality often stinks.
Replaying Wind Waker and Twilight Princess at the same time showed that realism dates really poorly, and Wind Waker did not look 10 years old!! :U
Also I'm a little biased towards Bethesda, but idk lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MunchingRabbit In reply to ditto9 [2011-12-03 21:58:01 +0000 UTC]

Same with Okami!
The style is timeless, it will look great no matter when you decide play it.
Now, take older games, like... say... the 2nd or 3rd Spyro.
I love Spyro, but the sharp angles and pixelated textures don't translate well in this day and age. :/
All I can say about this is...

Amen.

Thank you. Most of the games I like are unrealistic in looks anyway, often with a "cartoony" or "anime-ish" style.
Having good graphics are of course a plus, but good=/=realistic (well, though some types of games work better as "realistic", the ones I play don't). Plus... many games seem to only focus on making it as photorealistic as possible, more than the other games that are out... in the process losing some of the unique style. It's sad to see style be sacrificed for simple realism, lost in a sea of other "realism over all else" games...

In a similar manner, I support 2D games. Even today with all the 3D, 2D can still look pretty good, yet, there seem to be very few of them coming out today, at least from the Western market. I like 2D sprites.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ditto9 In reply to Zanreo [2011-11-06 10:33:25 +0000 UTC]

2D games are awesome c: I really love the Paper Mario series for that, and the integration of 3D in the latest one was awesome!!
I recently played Wind Waker and Twilight Princess from the Zelda series, and on my large TV, TP lost a lot of quality in its graphics (still looks lovely, mind) but Wind Waker still looks fresher and cleaner! I looked up the dates for release of Windwaker, and it's nearly 9 years old - and came out around the same time as stuff like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!
It just proves that stylised games are more immortal than realistic, which is a lovely thing!

as i've said many a time. "graphics ruined gaming"
the race to make the game look better than the competition has made people and developers ignore such important features such as storyline and characters, not saying the high res games are bad, but graphics arent everything.

though recently it seems that right now the big thing in games development is enemy AI or scripting mechanics and lip sync, reducing the overall graphics somewhat to update the realism, again. i have mixed feelings about this.
