I can not draw lately. At all. I spent four hours the other night drawing half a head that I threw away. Hah.So I've been doing whatever I can think of to get around the problem. Today that was using a reference to not draw. This picture is only notable or even remotely cool in the fact that I used nothing but markers on it. That means no outlines or guidelines or whatever. I referenced a picture of Travis Fimmel I have by my computer. For the record, I HATE using references. The proportions are neither Travis', Lance's nor my regular style... they're just what happens when I go straight to markers.
It's an ugly Lance... but whatever, I moved his eye three times and fixed his mouth way more than I should've. The picture is also way overworked. But it's cool, because most people are afraid of markers for their permanence when they're actually very forgiving. Anyway, I've scanned it and decided to 'fix' it three times already so I'm calling it... abandoned, if not done.
Maybe I'll try for a better one sometime.

I'm just strolling through my deviations on my list so I'm not sure if I've commented on this one. I really like the way this one turned out. The shapes and colors in the shirt really groove nicely along with the torso.

And Lance, to me, pulls it off excellently. And it fits. When he's all upset like that he doesn't want to be seen, and so the pose fits perfectly. Hair over one eye, but one left with perfect visibility. Kinda like "here's my blinders, but I'm not so naive that I won't keep seeing what truth is there that put me in this state of mind". The abstract quality is spot on, golden even, and we both know I love abstract visuals that tell more than a regular pinup can. I think this piece turned out wonderfully. No, it's not Lance in all his pristine golden glow and glory, but it's the real Lance... the one that can truly stare at you and say "You think you know me, but you don't."

I really like the words used for the background! It gives it a very different sort of flavor . . . and the colors are sweetcious. I can't believe you don't like this! You use of markers is astounded. Gotta give ya props!

You producing awesomeness like this with markers = you being my hero. I mean DUDE. Wow. I can't even crank out something this nice (and ravenously sexy) with the use of an eraser. You're much too hard on yourself.

I could never draw something like this with only markers...I'd need at least a little pencil outline first, so kudos to you! The tones of his shirt are really cool...I just thoroughly enjoy this piece!

Holy crap, man! You did such an amazing job with this piece! It looks as if you did it all on computer! The proportion is excellent, and I love his pose and face! Only markers? Amazing. Simply amazing. This is all I can say about such a piece as this. Gorgeous! He's handsome, heh heh.

I think it's a very interesting experiment. Love the orange with the brown shading for the shirt, and you did this JUST with markers? The proportions look great o_o I'm always so surprised when people can draw without at least pencil guidelines ^_^;;

Ooh, wow. You so rock with markers. I'm not sure I agree with the ugly Lance bit. I'm in love with his torso. The folds of the shirt are neat, like the messy hair and his face, and the lyrics in the back are a nice touch.

I agree it's not the usual pretty-boy you draw, but the over-all affect is really emotional, which makes it an amazing piece. And the colors are just fantastic, especially the skin tones. It's not your usual style, but it might be something you should explore.
Sorry if that's too much criticism, but just the frustration in the piece and your comments make it seem like you need to hear something that's not some sucking up load of crap. Even if you disregard this comment, whatever. At least it's out there.

To you it may seem ugly, only because you've been staring and working on it for so many hours. But to someone who's looking at it for a few moments I find it really well done. Maybe you should just leave it a while and then later look back on it and you'll find it's not as bad as you thought
