Description
New one on the go from me...After Telion, i fancied something fun and simple, and i also wanted another bash at some red, seeing as it looked good on Telion's cloak!
This lovely old sculpt is by the great Brian Nelson, and was for the game Necromunda. This Telepath has been great fun to paint so far, and im trying to get a John Blanche-esque feel with the colours and details.
The more observant of you will notice that im not using a black undercoat for this one... all part of my ongoing attitude to move my style forward, i thought i'd try a lighter colour to see what it does for my pallette, and so far, it seems to make things clearer and brighter... this is good... right?
So far, so good anyway...

As to the colours, i have more experiments with other colours planned for the future... all thanks to a bod on Platoon Britannica for the inspiration, really

There's something really reminiscent of John Blanche's art in this one. Love how it's coming along.

I thought that about the sculpt when i looked at it, so i thought the colour choices would complement him well
Glad you're liking him so far

Nice.
Great metalics and face. But i think that you could paint more neatly the creature behind him.

awesome! are you doing the skin the same way as telion? if you do ill just check that tutorial. if not, how did you do it?

Its essentially the same, but i reduced the amount of Tanned Flesh in the base coat, so that it came out more grey...perfect for the pasty look and the dominant grey in the base coat reacts well with colour washes.

No, a Telepath... there were 3 Wyrds that you could hire for your gang, in the Outlanders supplement i think...
They were this Telepath, a Telekinetic and a Pyromaniac... all by Brian Nelson

Man, this is all kinds of nostalgic. I couldn't tell you hadn't used a black undercoat without reading the description, but the overall look of the red does seem a lot more eye-catching than it should do with black, on a second look. I love the little Sump Rat as well.
Speaking of awesome Necromunda minis, did you ever find that plasma gun?

Djartistknight In reply to GlauG [2009-11-13 19:50:38 +0000 UTC]
Yea, had a few comments about nostalgia on this one lol
The undercoat is the old GW Ogre Flesh spray... i just discovered some in the store cupboard, and thought it was very close to Charadon Granite, which ive worked off before... and this is the result so far!
Sump Rat is stolen off the new Skaven Doomwheel...
As to that plasma gun, i didnt find it actually... i just had a massive trawl through recently to see what i do and dont have and i didnt find it... on the other hand i found random stuff like this Telepath that i didnt know i had!
Such is the manner of the bits box...
Apologies for that though.

GlauG In reply to Djartistknight [2009-11-13 20:07:59 +0000 UTC]
Huh, interesting... I naturally assumed you'd worked off a white basecoat if you didn't use black. I've never used grey for minis, only larger scale model stuff, but I've never been too happy with the result.
And no worries about the plasma gun, I figured you'd had a rummage in Necromunda-era bits if you were pulling this guy out for a lick of paint.

Djartistknight In reply to GlauG [2009-11-13 20:37:06 +0000 UTC]
Well, i've used white in the past, wasnt keen... black is my preferred to date, but this new colour idea seems to yield good results so maybe a change is in the air!
Yea, sorry about that again... my bits box isnt really categorized...well, its bits boxes to be fair lol a few shoe boxes with just.... everything in them... takes forever to rummage for even something basic...
I need to get that all sorted through one day... *sighs*

I'm surprised the red's come out so bright actually, having had a look at Charadron Granite... Are you using a GW Foundation or similar?
And I just have a bunch of big plastic tubs full of models, bits, unused sprues, so I know what you mean.

Djartistknight In reply to GlauG [2009-11-13 22:41:32 +0000 UTC]
For the red you mean? No... just Scab Red as a base... its shaded with Brown Wash and Scaly Green as per my recent tutorials and highlighted with Red Red Gore and Bleached Bone.
Every modeller should have loadsa bitz ^_^ God, the stuff i found...
