Boggles are rotund Ziz with a notable flat muzzled face. Boggles are often welcomed inside the households of mortals due to their docile nature & comical appearance. Over the years these stouts were bred specifically for their wrinkles, mimicking the ancient rune Fehu. The very rune that symbolises fortune, abundance & success.

HABITAT RANGE

During the 5 year absence after the war among nations a civil feud between the four horsemen was under way dividing the four. The horsemen of War & Death shook the very foundation of the northernmost parts of Europe where the two battled over the fate of mortals, as the conflict lasted in a estimation of 4 days. The victor to this battle remains to be unknown although the aftermath left a scar of supreme proportions. The feud unleashed a phenomena that conjured magnetic currents that caused blocks of earth to rise & circulate several hundred, if not thousands, of feet into the sky like icebergs at sea. These islands range from the size of small fields to staggering mesa like mountains where over time had overgrown with vegetation, accomodate vast water sources & even regulate breathable air despite being so high up, these islands became known as the Valhallan Archipelago. Due to the inhabitable conditions of these islands they house many unique Neofauna in addition act as a roost for various Ziz species, amongst them are the Boggles. Boggles are the prime inhabitants of the Valhallan Archipelago where their populations range from the island blocks of Germany & Poland to Norway & Scandinavia. Their preference to their favoured environment is pretty nonchalant & will happily roost wherever they please, however they will often mellow where human settlements are situated. Due to the leniency to how the settlers show these Ziz, Boggles are found walking in the major towns, roosting on the roofs of houses & even lounging inside the establishments of the civilians without provocation.

ECOLOGICAL NICHE

Boggles stand at the lowest spot of the ecological food chain in the Valhallan Archipelago being preyed by all matter of predators large & small, from being struck down by leviathans like Tatzelworms to being snatched in mid flight by Dryads.
Boggles are also a danger to their environment & to themselves. Their lack of defensive adaptations & self awareness coupled with a tragic set of faults in their genetic signature a single member of these Ziz would be lucky to reach adulthood if harm from predators, the environment or quite frankly themselves doesn’t get the better of them. However the population status of these Ziz remains at the least of concern. The only major advantage that a Boggle has to survive in the wild its ability to reproduce at an exponential rate where a one family would have a litter of 10-12 pups in a month. But their survival rates have also increased due to settlement captivity where the Ziz are often allowed to roam their towns as popular pets.

Boggles are also kept close due to a common belief where the wrinkles on their foreheads come to shape the rune Fehu. The settlers of the Island blocks of Norway & Scandinavia have a belief system where treating these Ziz with the warmest hospitality grants the people fortune & good luck when it comes to trades, crops & the blessings of children. Therefore the welcoming of these Ziz have now reached to the point where they’re loitering the town with a nature so blasé.

Boggles are omnivorous Ziz where they can be found eating moss, berries, mushrooms & vegetables but they will supplement their diet by eating insects, larvae, smaller animals & carrion. Boggles will also scavenge for leftovers off of settlers, often rummaging through the garbage or even their supplies without a single pause of concern to their actions. It had been discovered that Boggles have a recently acquired the taste for peanutbutter. The food paste is full of oil & contains the highest calories the Ziz needs to bulk & fatten up for times of food scarcity & winter, therefore these Ziz will opportunistically raid food storages whenever they pick up its irresistible scent.

BIOLOGICAL ADAPTATIONS

Boggles have far more biological defects than it does adaptabilities. Over the years due to rapid reproduction Boggles have bred & diversified to the point where the most famous specimens seen in the present became dwarfed in comparison to their larger ancestors. Their faces became brachycephalic in formation where they now gained breathing problems & a condition where it’ll snort & scoff uncontrollably, known as ‘reverse sneezing’. Boggles have devolved to the point where they had become quasi-flightless due to their weak wing structures & stout physiology, the most active variants however have shown to be more flight capable travelling from Island to Island in spared journeys. Most who aren’t are prone to obesity thus subjecting these variants to live in burrows & grottos in the islands whereas the younger & more active are to be found in tree hollows & canopies, away from terrestrial predators that prowl below.
However their rapid reproduction is a double sided coin when it comes to the Ziz & the food web it’s part of. Due to the seemingly everlasting population & rapid growth rate of these Ziz they seem to sustain the food web as a vital food source amongst all manner of carnivore, keeping it in perfect balance. This in turn grants the members of peak capacity to survive. The only delay to this darwinistic flow of life is their dependency towards human culture.

BEHAVIOUR

Boggles are docile Ziz often described having a charming personality. Though strong willed & relatively stubborn at times they are rarely aggressive in comparison to most other Ziz. On a regular basis in the Valhallan Archipelago, humans would interact with Boggles positively believing them as omens of good will. Boggles are also fond of children & would often play with them as a form of socialism. With the increase of human interaction Boggles would ‘shadow’ people seeking attention as these now thrive on human dependency & compassion.
