this is golden!
just one thing; when drawing stripe-patterned suits, don't the stripes go down vertically along the length of the lapels?

DJCoulz In reply to Gobeur [2011-06-15 19:08:50 +0000 UTC]
Yes that's true, I threw the stripes on last and it was so late when I did it. Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to go back over and fix it now.

You'd think with how detailed this tutorial is on how to construct a suit I would have gotten that right the first time. XD

It's not a subject touched on in many tutorials. It's mostly just the 'how to draw' part. :3

See this is how to construct a suit, so you know what your looking for before you draw it. So it's helpful even for people who are pro at drawing suits. Though I will do a how to draw later so that the people who struggle with drawing suits can get the benefits from this tutorial as well.

Honestly, you should be an instructor. Did you ever take professional classes?
/:3 Also I think you should try one on Naval Uniforms. Seriously, we need more cracker jacks and combination covers around here. >XD Just a friendly suggestion from a Sailor!

DJCoulz In reply to Minnie-Salinas [2011-06-15 19:50:45 +0000 UTC]
XD Well I've got the "why do sailors have bell bottoms" comic, which explains the uniform, but I sapose I could do one for how to draw them, since I see them drawn wrong all the time, but few people get to see them up close like I do. XD
And no I've never taken classes or any of that, fully self taught, I read alot though haha. 8P

Hey if you need research materials (rating symbols, medals and awards, warfare devices, etc.), let me know. I'm like... living research materials. Would you have an interest in the female uniforms? Honestly, I was traveling in my blues once and somebody thought I was a fucking stewardess. >:C
And it's very impressive how young you are and yet you are drawing on the professional level. <:3 I hope it takes you somewhere someday. Honestly, during the deployment, I saw my artwork backslide. That kind of scares me. :c

Well considering all the stuff I've learned because I'm about 2 months away from joining the Navy my self, I pretty much know all the basics. Plus my moms a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force, so I've always been around Military stuff, obviously each branch's stuff is very different. Though if I have any particular uniform questions I'll let you know.
Actually, do you know why women don't get the blue sailor jumper? Makes no sense that they wear the white one, but when it's winter they have to wear the button up suit jacket thing. (It like upsets me cause that's my favorite Navy uniform, but I won't get to wear it.) I mean I've hear the sailor jumpers don't fit well on women, so I could see why they would have the suit jacket, but they wear the white one so?
Also I've asked tons of Navy people this, no one has an answer, Why is the Navy's camo blue? Like, if your on a boat with it on and you fall off no one would be able to find you, but if your on land the blueberries stick out like a soar thumb. I've asked tons of people and no one knows why. XD Seems like a poor choice for battle camo.

Oh no shit? What are going to go to 'A' school for? I hope made a decision that will fit your desires and needs. Me personally, I'm an IT, so work in a chill box doing computer and network repair. And there are some really neat warfare devices for both Officer and Enlisted personnel.
As far as females not wearing the blue jumper, the answer would be the WAVES (Women All Volunteer Enlisted Service, if I remember off the top of my head). Their uniform consisted of a cover similar to today's female combination cover, a jacket, and a dress. When the WAVES were dissolved and and females were allowed to enlist, the uniform was based on that. Why we wear the white jumper... don't quote me on this, but it'd probably be because it would have been cheaper and easier to put us in the uniform, rather than trying to crap out a white version of our blues.
But if you are an honor guard command (i.e. funerals, cerimonial, etc.) you would be required to wear the male blues with the female combo cover. It looks pretty boss to me.
And the NWU's? Simple, the colors on the uniform are similar to the colors of paint on a ship, so if we end up spattering paint on ourselves it won't look as bad as if we were in the utilities. But the CNO loathes this uniform, and their in the process of redesigning it. l:c I already bought a whole seabag's worth of uniforms. I don't need anymore. And I want my fucking Johnny Chash's back, dammit!
I have a love/hate relationship with the uniform. On the positive side, they're very low maintenance, they keep you warm in the winter, and they're hard to get dirty. On the other hand, they don't breathe so you broil in your uniform in humid environments, and you look pretty retarded next to a soldier or marine in their ACU's or MARPATs.
:3 I hoped this helped.
