Description
This pic has been sitting in my files for a while. Also my tablets busted again so I feel I should atleast put something up here so y'all don't think I died.My take on Roland Dechain from Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series. It's always the hardest thing drawing someone from a book who you can picture so clearly in your head but putting em on paper is rough.

This is awesome! Can't wait to start this series, but I need to 'collect' all of the books first... I get them at the thrift store and you never know which book you're going to find. @_@ Still need a couple.
And on a slightly unrelated note, I'm thrilled you've joined LongLiveTheKing and posted this; I'm a huge fan!

I also could tell exactly who this was without even reading the title. Fantastic!

Nicely done! I take it this is before he has his fingers chewed off?

Lol yeah, normally I'd jump at the chance to mangle a character but I wanted my concept to be neutral as not to spoil the books.

I see. I've actually gotten used to picturing him with missing fingers, but other than that your drawing fit my mental image of him.

Nice, when it comes to books everyone got such a particular idea in their head of how everything looks.

Yeah, I've never actually seen a good picture of Eddie to be honest. Guess partially because no one really draws these characters.
Alright, honestly, my version of Roland had longer face, thinner lips and longer hair. But seeing yours, it just somehow fits much better.

Yeah when I first started reading I had the sort of generic Clint eastwood tight faced sharp badass which is kinda what King is trying to show you in his character, but the more I read my mind couldn't help but make his face very sort of rough in a non-hollywood sexy way. If that makes sense. He prolly looks like a normal person with a hellova face lol.
Also I think my picture of Eddie is way more generic new yorker than everyone elses. I kinda picture him as just an average Joe from Brooklyn.

The weirdest thing I have with Eddie is that for some reason I keep seeing NY Italian, not white guy. I guess because of the attitude.Β
You're right with Roland though. He is described kinda like Clint Eastwood. But in the same time it doesn't really fit. I really do like your version better. It's not the first one coming to mind but it definitely gives him a lot of personality.

lol yeah I don't see Eddie as a stereo typical white new yorker I see him as being a stereo typical Italian new yorker and I think alot of people see him being white which I can't do haha.
I'm glad you like my version of Roland tho, cause when it come down to who you see in a book version you can be very protective of the way you've picture them cause when you read a book so rich you tend to have a really solid sort of version of them in your head and you see other peoples version and its like "well that's not what I thouhgt".

I like keeping my mind open for other people's interpretations as they sometimes may be so much better than what I thought. I'm super glad that such a favorite artist of mine drew Roland. Your style is perfect for this.

Thanks mang. I mean to be fair I've been reading Stephen King since I was 8 so he probably helped shape my gritty style to begin with. It's all coming around full circle. XD

Thank you. I'm glad you like it. It's funny cause he ended up looking totally different from what I thought I'd picture him looking at when I first started read the books.

no problem! my view of roland morphed as I read the books as well, but as for the other characters I've always had only one image for them. :D
maybe that'll change if I actually finish the entire series haha
