Hi this is a very good map and I'd like to use it in my campaign, if It ever goes anywhere I'll be in contact and it would be good to know that I can expand it without worry about upsetting your copy write, soΒ  do I have permission to expand this piece or do I have to find something else ?.

Hmm....I have a question for you. Β When you are going about doing a map like this, how do you determine what the city lay out should look like? I know it is likely certain buildings will be in certain places because they have local importance (like the market square) or things will grow up around them, but what about where other things go? Β Do you just decide where obvious features (like a mill being near a river) go, then build up around that?

Djekspek In reply to Genisay [2015-02-01 13:05:28 +0000 UTC]

to be honest, this one was just an artistic try and I didnt really look into the functional city layout. But indeedΒ there's a 'set of rules' on how cities are build up. Depending on age, occupants, strategic importance etc.Β There's so many things to consider... I'm not an expert on this and usually try to think logically on why things should be at a specific place.. but I bet there's a lot of info on the web on it. cheers, DJ

There probably is. Β To some extent, I understand what those are. And I guess a lot of it has to do with what your town was built for, and how it got started. Β Like, a Trade town might have started with a mere trading post. Β From there, you either have people moving in and setting up homes, or other traders come, and set up more shops, then homes develop as they bring other people in. Β It gets large enough, and some kind of higher organization is required, so a council or meeting hall might be set up.
A friend and I are recently going through this with a city we are building around and mountain/valley area in Minecraft. Β We determined it to be a mining town, so it was miners to start, then shops they set up in the valley beyond the mine. Β Eventually people started coming, and housing was set up beyond the shops.

So maybe....determining terrain and what is nearby resource wise as well as purpose of town/city is the first things that need to be decided. Β Then things can kind of happen logically from there as you figure out how your town/city originally came together.

Did you use CC to make this or just to do the actual buildings?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Djekspek In reply to Potamophilous [2014-01-15 18:59:43 +0000 UTC]

I created this using Photoshop, so no CC was used, all handdrawn.
