Description
Finally I started doing some cartography again! This map is an 18th century map of the world, and will be used in a game called Rulers of the Sea (www.rulersofthesea.com ). The project is currently in funding stage, so I hope we will get to the stage where the team can fully create this game. And I will be able to do some more cartography. The game is a historical sandbox MMORPG, where players can rewrite history. There is so much to do in the game. You can become Prime Minster of England, or become a Pirate, and even pursue a career in cartographyRelated content

Hey Arsheesh! Been a long time indeed... there were too many other projects so I had to stop making maps. But I see you kept yourself busy! I have to say some really nice maps you made!

Thank you very much DJ. Yes, I know what you mean. I've got more artistic interests than I can juggle. But I've chosen to focus my attention on the niche of map-making. How bout yourself, what are you up to these days?

Yeah always more and more interesting things I moved back to my more techie-side and currently I'm setting up a game-studio to develop an MMORPG. A very ambitious but also very cool project. You can check it out at www.rulersofthesea.com... You can even become a 18th Century cartographer in the game
(I'll post something on the guild-forum in the near future as well)

Wow, that is ambitious. My game medium of choice is of the tabletop variety, but that sounds like a really fun project. I hope it proves to be a great commercial success for you. From just a brief perusal it looks like a solid game idea that might appeal to a certain sort of gamer (particularly those drawn to history).

These were done by using an overlay layer in PS with (in overlay blend mode, with 50% opacity or so). The texture I used for this is from a stock site. But it's easy to make one yourself (just fold a paper, scan it, and use it as the overlay texture. Or in case you are a bit more familiar with PS, you can just paint the texture yourself using a softbrush (black for the shadows and white for the highlights. Use small (pressure sensitive) strokes and the shift-key whiled painting, to keep sharp edges between the folds.

I think Gimp can also do overlay layers like PS. I never used it but I think it has... But congratz on the new hardware, and good luck experimenting!

Very realistic, especially by adding the fold lines. Neat.
