Description Commissioned painting of R2D2 from Star Wars. My mom's coworker saw my work and wanted to commission something for her father's birthday. She asked for a painting of R2D2. I quickly painted this out for her.

As a favor to my mom, I only asked $20 for it.

Anyway, May the 4th be with you!

Hand painted in acrylic on 16"x20" canvas.

That's incredible, dude. The canvas gives it an interesting textured effect, not to mention the way you shaded the different individual areas add a lot to the metallic feel of R2D2.  The simplicity of the highlighted blue background definitely gives this a retro feel, which is nice to see since classic Star Wars seems to be enjoying a renaissance period in popular culture at the moment.  Props to you for putting your talent to good use once more!

Thanks, Bowser.

Didn't want to over complicate the painting since R2 has so many different features to account for. It was hard for me to appreciate the texture of the canvas at first, but looking at it when I finished, the piece seemed a bit more raw and helped me appreciate the brush strokes a bit more. And as you said, looking at it made it feel a bit retro.

Any time there, DN.

Sometimes I like to look at such occurrences as the way painter Bob Ross used to call them, as 'happy accidents'. We don't always intend something to look a certain way while painting or what have you, but if just go with the flow of things sometimes we're able to better appreciate it for what it is and can even realize it might add a special element or quality to the composition as a whole.
