Description
Finished my painting of Zelda from Breath of the Wild. So it will have a chance of being displayed at the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 St Show.Personally, I think the painting could use some touch ups, but I am pretty happy with how the Link and Epona statuette came out.Β
Piece inspired by works of John Singer Sargent, painted in acrylic, and measures 18"x24".
Gicl'ee canvas prints of this piece are available for sale on my Etsy shop!

It's great!! I like how you included the statue of Link and Epona in representing the "heroes" in Hyrule history. Your work captures the setting very well. Great Job!

Thank you very much! I'm actually most proud of that addition when it comes to this piece. Interesting fact is that the statue is based off a gold statue that Club Nintendo made exclusive only to Europe. The composition and gold finish of the statue give it a classic look of an antique statuette you would see during the Gilded Era.Β

Excellent work! This dress should have gotten more screentime.

Yeah, you're right. I was severely disappointed when I saw Zelda sporting the riding wear and the white dress most of the time. I know they wanted to emphasize her being a strong willed outgoing person with the pants and all, but I appreciate the regality these sort of outfits possess.
I know the white dress is really popular, but I prefer this over that honestly.

Neat. I like that reflection, though I feel the arm closer to the reflection isn't as represented as it should be in it.

You're right, I'll probably darken the dress in the reflection overall and make changes to emphasize the arm needing to be properly reflected. Thanks for pointing that out.Β

Your background scenery work continues to improve with even the most subtle of touches. I like how you can create the feeling of being in the room with the subject just by enhancing the perspective with a side-on angle and using certain tones of colors to establish a painting's mood. It's also admittedly interesting to see BoTW's version of Zelda standing somewhere not outdoors in the middle of nature, so that's a rather neat point to make about your rendition of her too.
Really nice work, dude!

Thank you. You're right, while most of the game does take place outside, I went for an interior for a few reasons. It's indoors to emphasize the fact that this is before the fall of Hyrule and is supposed to give an idea that this portrait would of been made at that time. The the styling of the fireplace is also a direct reference to the actual fireplaces found in Hyrule Castle. This was of course lowered to give her the chance to rest her arm, by the style of the fireplace is replicated by the simple floral motifs in the center and out panels and simple pillar style supporting the mantle.Β
To further hint about the time period this would of been painted in, I specifically named the painting "Princess to a Throne of Nothing." The idea that the artist was taking a jab at the princess before the kingdom fell.Β
Fun fact: The gold statuette is an actual statue exclusive to that of Club Nintendo members of Europe.

That's a good setting to portray, considering you don't learn much about why everything fell to pieces until much later in the game, I'm assuming (haven't played it yet myself). I love how the game's atmosphere seems to convey a sense of mystery that lingers throughout all the different places you visit. It's interesting too because I'm assuming you don't see too much of what Hyrule used to look like before it went back to nature, so to see an artist illustrating that time in history is awesome to gain a glance at. I also enjoy and thoroughly appreciate homages and referential easter eggs in compositions, so kudos to you there too.
My pleasure!
