Description Really, there is tonns of people who like own art and always starts whining when someone tryes to critique them)

Personally, I HATE when they write in artist's comments/journals how they luufffff their drawings, their epic styles, etc.

Just, do you think you don't need to improve? Or, even you have over 9000 watchers (only because you can draw only wolves in cartoonic style, for example), and they fapping on you, some such people continue to draw what they drew. And call themselves "artist".

Heh, I can't find so much ARTISTS on this site. Artist doesn't draw only one thing, artist always tryes to overdo themself in new ART.

IMHO - And to be a "person who likes draw" and be an "artist" are different things for me. I can call ARTIST only those people who draw better than me, to have a goal to improve too.

Haha, just as you like to call people hypocrite if you don't like the opinion, I must tell you, i'm from the first category too ^^

About having a free opinion, people, you make me laugh. You don't like when someone hates anything. BUT isn't it an opinion too? If you have a right to support something, why anothers can't have a right to hate it? Then you break own imagination of free opinions~~~

Agreed. People who can't accept the smallest amount of critique aren't true artists--a true artist considers a good, constructive critique the greatest compliment of all.

Lol! I love this stamp! I think there is always room for improvement and a need to explore different art styles and mediums. Yet, if someone is happy with their own art style I don't think that is all bad. Only when they claim that their art is sooo much better than everyone or that their art is sooo much original (when it is not) is when I have a problem with that.

So I guess I'm not an artist seeing as you're like 10x better than me haha (probably doesn't help that you're 3 years old than me too) I try improving as much as I can by using real life references (if the things is real at least lol) and stuff like that

But I know what you mean about the people who get big heads about themselves =.=" It kinda makes me want to throw a shoe at them and say "Shut up I know at least 10 people better than you" God they are so arrogant

I think a person can draw one thing and still be an artist. Art is often an expression of self and drawing one thing is an expression of that self being really boring

Nah, I prefer a confident artists with so-so skills to a skilled artist who constantly criticizes their work. What's art and what's not is not up to you, so why should who is an artist and who's not?

BurgerForLunsh [2010-06-29 16:02:28 +0000 UTC]

I... have personally... never EVER seen this going on.

But I do agree. You can learn a lot from how other people draw their art.

Although this whole "draw better than me" thing is entirely subjective. Just what do you mean by that? And is it bad if someone has developed a comfortable style that you do not happen to find appealing (but not because of bad anatomy and such)?

I see your point here. Though, I do enjoy some things I make, though I don't like to go overboard on one drawing. Because, there is always room for tons of improvement. I try my best to learn better ways to draw animals, but I've noticed for some "artists" this isn't enough.
I mean "The Lion King" is one of the most widely ripped-off syles ever known. And thats because some people aren't as good at coming up with "New" material as others can be.
Personally I don't care for my art as much. I just draw for the sake of drawing. Knowing, that eventually it will get better. I am open to criticizim but I can see that I have many flaws just by glancing at it. I go by the thought of "Beginner Artist" and "Mastered Artist" Your not truely mastered till you've tried everything you can, and that you finally feel satisfied enough in your own work, that you will criticize yourself when you want it to change.

Well I know that I need way more improvement before I can call myself a "Mastered Artist" I have years of work ahead of me.

YES.
THE LION KING THING.
IS SO TRUE.

haha like every single lion drawing i see on here is based off the lion king, or is in that style!
uh yeah, that'ss all.

nellofox In reply to paper-starrs [2010-11-21 21:29:20 +0000 UTC]

I agree totally. I think its a better idea to look at a real lion rather than going by their anatomy. Because not all of it is correct.

Same here. I see most lions done in either that style or the Kimba style.

Its all good. I am glad you acknowledged it Because its too common.

i've seen a few nice ones, (not lionking'y) but very rarely.
some that look like lion king are nice, but it's like.. could you at least be a BIT more original?
some of the ones i see on here they may as well put the lion king copyright singn in the description! haha

they do that little triangle thing above the nose and.. that weird eye thing. :U
but i'm glad that somebody else noticed it.
and yes, way to common.

Me too. But they seem to be uncommon. But I really like seeing them!

I agree, people should learn to be a tad bit more original.
It makes the artist interesting.

But whatever, you can't please everyone all of the time.

Though, it gets a bit boring after a while.
And I don't know the significance of the eye thing yet...

Yes I am glad that you noticed it as well.

Kitty-cat-95 [2010-06-29 12:41:56 +0000 UTC]

Well actually if someone makes money from their work however good or bad it is they can call themseleves an artist as that is the definition :L See so anyone can call themselves an artist if they create art, and frankly just because you may not like their style or think its generic doesn't mean it makes it any less artistic, no matter how good or not they are. And yes it might just be your opinion but frankly if your going to express it at least make sure it isn't offensive to anyone. Heres the definition of an artist if you're interested.

Wiktionary defines the noun 'artist' (Singular: artist; Plural: artists) as follows:

1. A person who creates art.
2. A person who creates art as an occupation.
3. A person who is skilled at some activity

I can't really agree on your "artist"-definition, but I very much agree on the part about people with an ego so big it blocks out everything that doesn't act as fertilizer for it. And by that I mean poopy "OMG I lurf ur stuff!!!!11"-comments. Never understood why those were perfectly fine for people but "OMG I haet ur stuff!!!!11"-comments are a No-No and people start pulling out their "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all"-card, ruining years of education about-

You know what, I start ranting myself, let's just agree on those people who can't take any criticism at all But really, they're throwing away a great chance to grow...

We-R-L3gi0n [2010-06-29 02:48:01 +0000 UTC]

I always hate what i draw. And i love good critiques. I feel that there can always be inprovment, in mine and others drawings and painting for instance. EX. omaN2501 and adonihs are my two favorite artist on dA... LOVE UM! but that doesnt mean they are perfect. Hell they are far better then me, so im not going to compare my work to theirs, but im using them as an example.

I would never say my work is amazing. In fact, half the time i hate my work. I would however call my self an artist, because i at least ATTEMPT to improve, try new things, and constantly challenge myself.

But worse then people thinking they are perfect, is the people who are way to modest. "OH I SUCK SO MUCH. I HATE MY WORK SO MUCH IM SO BAD BLAH!" when they are actually really good. It makes me sick. Hell i dont like half of the shit in my gallery, but in my artist comments all i say is "Dont like it that much, might redo it." Or "Hell this kinda sucks. oh well"

I don't think I'd ever say my art is good, or that is "doesn't need improvement". I'm always trying to top whatever I did last!
I'm terrible with a pencil, but at least I try!! I mostly do photography, though. Even so, I think the same concept applies in ANY field of art! If you're not improving, you're just wasting time!

Totally agreed. Nothing is more annoying than a person who draws only cartoonic animals and claims him/herself as the best artist ever. I know few this kind of persons, unfortunately. And it is very disturbing. One of them has a hideous style to draw, and still she thinks she's an excellent artist and she doesn't approve any kind of critique. And she thinks she's ORIGINAL, but she just draws sparkle- & gloomdogs with horrible style. Ugh.

moo-chi-64 [2010-06-29 00:53:03 +0000 UTC]

I agree with this, artists are those who strive to improve. Even though I may think one of my pictures may be awesome, I know that I could still improve on them and make them batter, I appreciate critiques alot.

What I don't like is people who bash the manga/anime genre. Sure, alot of it looks the same and all, but again, you're stereotyping all the artists who draw manga/anime... I draw anime because it's what got me started on drawing and yet I am always trying to improve and I think that I am just as much an artist as everyone else on here...

AlbinoHat [2010-06-29 00:36:11 +0000 UTC]

To me an artist is someone who is always striving to improve, and when they find the style they want to use, they can branch out and use it in different contexts and mediums. I think that art is made up of skill and an idea. Some people have crappy ideas but heaps of skill. Others have great ideas and no skill.

Those with skill and ideas are never noticed on this site.

and those with niether happen to get all the favs and attention.

If i see another Chibi/Manga drawing with 100 favs, im going to scream. Its shit and been done before.

Drawings and art are different, so are doodles and drawings.

Hm. I don't call myself an artist. I like to draw and I accept that while I can draw, I don't have any consistent style or skill. And I completely agree with this stamp.

However, not all criticism is righteous. I know people who will criticize art just because it isn't drawn in their style. I have a friend who has given me critique on my art, but because it is a different style, all I really got out of it was her overall point: 'well, I would do it this way, so what YOU did isn't good.' She used her supposed constructive criticism as an outlet for her superiority complex. I called her out on it. So, while criticism can be constructive, it can be difficult to differentiate between those who are genuinely trying to help and those who are merely trying to assert themselves as superior.

Silme-Mor [2010-06-28 22:34:40 +0000 UTC]

I always hate this, and yet its a trend I see everywhere.

All the really good artists tend to be modest about their work, but only because they believe that they can improve far more then what they are at now. Yet, of course, I will come across someone who draws for horridly, but when I try to give advice in the nicest way possible, they start acting like I am attacking them.

I also agree with the whole "drawing-artist" thing. Honestly, ANYONE can draw. Its as easy as picking up a pencil and putting it to paper (or other another medium if one prefers) but to be an artist takes skill, time, pactince, and, most of all, the ability to take advice on how to improve.

It's so irritating...

I don't care if they like their own work or what they are doing. I like certain pictures I do from time to time, but I know within a year I can come back and make it better.

though yes, there's people who are..ehem, a BIT overconfident and think they are the be all end all of art lol. They are quite annoying, especially when their art ISNT that good but they get tons of comments or faves because they draw something that appeals to a wide audience, wheter or not the artwork itself is good.
