Description Our last project, five, had us creating our own hinges and soldering them onto our containers. I chose to do something that had never been done before on this teacher. I chose to create a locket that was a pin that was oval that had a top that was domed that was also inlay. He had never had someone do inlay on a dome before. Makes you wonder why right? The reason is that the crushed stone needs to be ground down to the metal, well when your metal is circular, it makes it a bit more difficult to get them to match without ending up with flat spots. But I did it. As you can see in the photos above, it looks great. It latches by that little silver ball and a clear latex thread.
The stone is Malachite.
(Also...this was my first 100% that he ever gave me...)

Amazing work! I appreciate the amount of effort it must have taken, but the result makes it worthwhile. Lovely!

Thank you very much.
I loved this one and it was also my teachers favorite as well. He said that I had finally found my potential as an artist by not sticking to the norm or even the simplest. (Even though...in its own concept this was simple...) Anyway, thank you for the lovely compliment. Have a great day and stay safe.

you mixed crushed stone with glue and polished after or you cut solid stone?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DOC-Ash1391 In reply to HLTT [2012-12-28 18:14:04 +0000 UTC]

I mixed crushed stone with resin and epoxy and then ground the mixed stone down to the metal once it had set, then buffed and polished. Trust me, I can't cut solid stone.
Hope that answers your question!

Yes it answers..Thanks. But You can cut solid stone and grind it to that shape..it just too much work. Anyways if You do something like that again find a good stone sculptor to get advice about tools and help

You do wonders for my self esteem.
I am glad that you like it, its for my Grandma and I am PRAYING she likes it as well. I have never made her anything before. Though she is my grandma, I have always felt that what I make isnt good enough. (I know...two by four upside the head for that comment but its true. )This time, I thinks she will like this. I am placing a picture of her and I inside.
