Description
This year's Con-exclusive print for Phoenix ComiCon. Pencils and inks by me, colors by the fab Bill Farmer. The idea is What If Star Wars had been a Serial that went big-time in the 19030s and got made into a big budget feature. Who would be in it? As the serials of the period were such a huge influence on Star Wars (Flash Gordon, etc), I think it would be neat to see this. Anyway, my cast includes Errol Flynn as Luke Skywalker, Paulette Goddard as Princess Leia, Humphry Bogart as Han Solo, Boris Karloff as Darth Vader, Bert Lahr as Chewbacca, John Barrymore as the Emperor, Sydney Greenstreet as Jabba and Peter Lorre as Greedo, among others (which will be named in the final version). The trick was making this look Dieselpunkee/retro sci-fi (like all Buck Rogers-ish) while still making sure that the actors I chose still looked like themselves AND were recognizable as Star Wars characters. Not an easy task, hence this project's years in the making.
Yes, I'm a crazy man.
Enjoy.

Have you seen this, perchance? www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmTpOQ⦠Goes hand in hand.
This is awesome by the way. I know it's been said already, but a little reinforcement never hurt anyone, amirite?

Yeah, that's so cool. I honestly can't remember if I got the concept from this and then said "Let's CAST it!" or if I stumbled across this during my research for overall look and feel of the art.
Thanks!!

That's really great to hear, thanks! I put so much into this but go back and forth as to whether or not I succeeded with it

Yeah, that's because it's Burt Lahr, who played the Cowardly Lion, hence 'Star Wars 1938'

Ah, yes, before the MPAA things were wild. You could get away with all sorts of stuff, including diaphanous clothes.
I like your X-wing designs.

Wow, George Lucas should totally greenlight a throw-back movie like this... and maybe let somebody else direct it!
