The time has finally come. After years of hardcore training to master the four elements, Mario can finally tap into his Avatar abilities at will. It was bitter work, but the results were worth it! Firebending came easy to him, as did air and earthbending. Waterbending was especially challenging for him, but in time, he mastered it as well. He is now ready to defeat Bowser again and save his princess once more. All in a day’s work for a hero, isn’t it?

But of course I had to draw Mario after he’s invoked the Avatar State! Why wouldn’t I? I had drawn him previously learning each individual element, and had him wear clothing from the nation he was training in, alongside his traditional overalls, and the kickass Attack Scarf. Now you get to see Mario in his full power. And just like the previous elements, I made a level in Super Mario Maker where his Avatar skills can be put to the test. And he’s wearing his iconic overalls in all their glory.

Drawing Mario was the easy part. Drawing the elemental sphere however, was not. It had to be in here, so Mario could show that he was a fully realized Avatar ready to deliver a beat down on someone. It was cool watching Aang do this as well. It’s angled differently because I didn’t have enough space to draw the fire ring, and I didn’t want it to overlap his hands. I thought about using brick blocks for the earth, but he’s likely compressed them so tight, they’re perfect circles. You can bet he’ll send out smaller chunks out and mow down the field in seconds flat like a Vulcan cannon. Notice that the fire ring is on the outside, while water and earth are inside the sphere. And to show that he’s unlocked the Avatar state, his eyes are glowing bright.
