“So what’s the sitch?”
She is the head cheerleader, straight-A student, and is involved in every extracurricular activity you can imagine. In any other reality, she would be a perfectionist, and possibly not anyone’s cup of tea. However, she is much more than that. She is a superhero, and according to her website (and the theme song), she can do anything. Her show was one of the most popular shows on Disney until it reached its 65th episode and was cancelled, but loud fan outcries convinced the developers to produce one more season. Her voice was provided by the lovely Christy Carlson Romano, who states she would love to reprise her role someday. Fingers crossed!
I’ve wanted to draw her for a very long time. Other projects and activities prevented this from happening, and eventually my interest in the series dwindled. Despite how popular the series was in its prime, there are very few cosplays of her (absolutely none exist on cosplay.com). I managed to find a good image of her from the show, and find some models in a similar pose. Close enough. And after discovering the Disney channel is airing reruns, I was overcome with joy hearing that awesome theme song and that signature beeping. That was when I remembered I hadn’t drawn her, and was suddenly inspired.
My friend and I were big fans of Kim Possible back in the day. He even managed to find some fan-made DVDs of the first three seasons at a con one year, and we’d watch them if given half a chance. We loved the theme song, the characters, the voices, the jokes, and the stories. I remember we sent requests for a fourth season. Imagine our surprise when it was announced. We weren’t successful at getting a fifth season, but we can still say that Kim Possible had a good run.
It actually felt great drawing a girl wearing pants as opposed to a Sailor Suit. Heaven knows I’ve run that into the ground. I did have trouble with her hands, to no surprise. Her shoes were also difficult because the model I found wears heels; Kim does not. I tried making them look like tennis shoes, but was not successful. I eventually broke down and used Sailor Moon’s shoes to help draw them. I did reduce the heel though, making them similar to cowboy boots.
