Shadow was nervous while they trotted beside their mother. Today they were going to meet a friend of mother and her son. Shadow wasn’t quite sure, if they liked the idea or not – so far they hadn’t met many fawnlings yet, with how their first mother had kept them in the cave mostly. Sure, there had been Zeit and now there was Hannibal and mother, who Shadow knew would always protect them and whom they felt very secured and guarded with, but a new fawn. It was excited. In a good or a bad way – Shadow didn’t quite know yet.

Soon they reached a clearing, where a beautiful doe was waiting, a tall colt with purple eyes at her side. The two does greeted each other with a hug and began chatting about the things adults talked about that fawns cared very little to hear. Not that Shadow would have had time, for the colt already had come straight for them, eyes sparkling with a friendly liveliness she didn’t quite know from Hannibal, his floppy ears wiggling.

“Sleipnir!” he stared brightly, “Friends?” he added with a grin.

As per usual, Hannibal was the one to step forward first, despite being shorter than the colt she still held that certain authority Shadow always would envy her for. The stocky filly looked the colt upside down, then gave a polite albeit curt nod and returned the introduction: “Hannibal.”

His attention then wandered to Shadow and all of the sudden his eyes became even bigger and even brighter, the grin on his face grew huge to a point where Shadow doubted a fawnling should be able to grin such a huge, wolfish grin.

“Friend?” he asked again, coming closer. Shadow backed up a bit, not sure what to do with all this enthusiasm and attention. Hannibal noticing her sibling’s dismay stepped in-between them and the colt with a firm stomp and a stern face.

“Hannibal. Let your sister make her own decision, will you, pup?” her mother then purred. Hannibal looked up at her, she knew that their mother always was right and that there was no doubting her orders and so the short filly took a step back, yet kept a squinting glare at the colt, who however didn’t seem to notice or mind at all, for he was coming for Shadow already, the white fawn backing up quite lost at what to do now without Hannibal to protect them.

“No afraid! Friends! Fun! See?” the colt suddenly said and as he did, his whole face changed to an absolutely silly look mix between a bunny, a bird, a pig and some really wild colour Shadow only knew from flowers. He let his tongue hang out and rolled his eyes, which changed colour in all shades of the rainbow. It all looked so wild and unreal, Shadow couldn’t help, but giggle.

“Oh, silly you.” The eventually chuckled, the colts face returned to it’s normal shape and colour, a grin however still plastered on it as he tilted his head: “Name?”
“Shadow.” The white fawn said a little bashful, ears growing back, when the colt added, “Beeeautiful!” then he looked at Hannibal again and once more back to Shadow, “Play?” he asked. Shadow looked at Hannibal, the dark filly rolling her eyes a bit, but nodded. “Yes!” Shadow stated, now also grinning themselves – who would have thought that meeting new friends was so easy!
