Description
Another oldie to celebrate my comeback.I can't recall if Jessica Rabbit did smoke in the movie, but it suited her so much...
This one's been sitting in my hard drive for a good while.

Jessica doesn't get enough credit for her singing.

Great work. Did Jessica Rabbit actually smoke in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" Considering her femme fatale appearance, the era in which the movie takes place and the fact that Disney was clearly going in a more mature direction with that movie, it's very plausible that she would smoke.

Thanks! That's a good question. I somehow have the image of her smoking carved in my mind like it's so natural to her but I can't really tell whether she smoked or not in the movie. Gotta rewatch and find out!

I haven't watched the movie in a long time myself. Even if "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" went further and was much more risque in its content than any other Disney animation/live action hybrid (it was released by Disney's "adult" label, Touchstone Pictures), I wouldn't be surprised if Jessica Rabbit did not smoke and if she did, that any shots of her doing so have been edited out from any recent/current re-release prints. You bring up a very good point though. She definitely looks like exactly the kind of sultry femme fatale character who would smoke. Odds are that the people who animated her most likely used certain actresses of the film noir era who were heavy onscreen smokers (like Lauren Bacall, Lizabeth Scott or Gene Tierney) as inspiration for her sultry style.Β

I saw it at the theater when it first came out and it blew my mind as a kid. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing on that first scene in the kitchen with the "baby". The animation over real-life objects, the dynamics, the fast pace... I was in a complete state.
I also remember getting a bit bored mid-play and not understanding half the plot and "adult" jokes back then, and Christopher Lloyd genuinely scared me (and my little brother wouldn't even look at the screen when his eyeballs feel off).
Each time I revisited the film I appreciated it more and more while growing up. And you're right: Jessica was DANGER and EXCITEMENT.

Thank you for sharing your memories of this movie with me. I was four years old at the time of its release and missed it in theaters but I did see it on VHS by the end of 1989. The finale kinda terrified me too back then and I would either shut the tape off or leave the room when that part came up. While the plot and dialogue often referenced things that kids would not understand, that was more so to entertain the parents since the kids would be more drawn to the cartoon zaniness and insanity that was occurring throughout the film's narrative. It was logic like this that allowed me to watch half risque/half cartoonish sitcoms like "Soap","Night Court" and "Married...with Children" with my parents back then. Lol. One last point, the fact that nearly every animation studio was persuaded to allow their characters to freely co-exist and interact with each other was unprecedented back then and even today. We likely may never see anything like this ever again. Happy 30th anniversary of the release of this groundbreaking movie.

I could be wrong, but there was a brief scene where Jessica rides off scene in the back of a (real-life) Convertible (not Benne the cartoon car) where she is smoking

I would imagine seeing her perform would be dangerous to one's health. Upon seeing the panties, every red-blooded male would have an instant heart-attack.

she actually doesn't smoke in the movie, however in the inside of the 2 disc dvd special edition, behind the one disk there is a pic of her sitting in her toontown apartment holding that fancy holder. maybe she was meant to do so in the movie but the scene was dropped or altered?

interesting!
I may have stumbled with some pic of that in the past and got stuck in my mind. I thought it was so natural for her to be smoking that I didn't even think about it, but then I rewatched the movie and never found her doing it. Weird tricks the mind does, I would have put money on that bet!
