Is it wrong to say that I like your version of the screenshot more than the original? Sorry Miyazaki.....

Hmm, whatever gave you this idea?
Anyway, your version looks really great, your lineart is so clean, and I like the slightly cool violet tone your image has! Β It's nice to see it in a not-really-anime style too.Β

A certain someone happened to inspire me!
Thank you! I was lucky enough this time to get the lineart so clean. Normally, my style is too sketchy.

That's quite an intense expression she has.Β With Howl's red nose, he looks slightly drunk.
I'd be interested in seeing more of your takes on various Miyazaki films, though.Β Perhaps something from Castle in the Sky, or Whisper of the Heart.Β Or any of his films really.Β

Hee, yup! Oh yeah? ;o It's something I picked up from Phobs... I love what he does with noses. I wouldn't be surprised if Howl was slightly drunk here though.
Definitely! I really want to do more of these in the future. And yeah, I was thinking Castle in the Sky or Spirited Away.

Castle in the Sky is possibly my favorite, though it has Whisper of the Heart putting up a hard fight for that title.Β Miyazaki is probably my favorite director.Β Ever.

Castle in the Sky was the first Miyazaki film I saw so I've got a special place for it in my heart. My favorite is probably Howl's Moving Castle though.

I don't really like Howl's much.Β It's good for the first half of the film, but once it gets to the introduction of Sulliman, it kinda falls apart.Β I mean, we have a clear villain with known goal and motive (Witch of the Waste wants to steal Howl's heart because she has none of her own) being supplanted by what appears to be a villain, but who's goals and motives are never clearly explained.Β And the ending has so many conflicting implications that it doesn't make sense.Β And also, Miyazaki cut the sub-plot from the book about Sophie having a magic talent for breathing life into things, so her suddenly being able to bring Calcifer back to life isn't set-up properly.Β What truly baffles me, though, is that Miyazaki stood out from the crowd in that he *never* made mistakes like that in his films.Β In fact, the praise he most consistently gets is how detailed and believable all of his characters are, so for one of his films to fall apart because two critical characters aren't properly developed is just weird.
I mean, I will give it that it's got at least the first half good, so there's more I can praise about it than Ponyo, but Howl's just doesn't gel together very well.Β It's watchable, but not his strongest effort.

I see. o:
Well, you're one of the rare few I've met who didn't like HMC as much. I can understand why though!

Part of it I can understand.Β Apparently, Miyazaki wasn't going to actually be involved in that one except as an executive producer, but there was an in-house argument and the person who was directing it quit, so he had to take over her job.Β Still, it's really not his strongest film.Β I'm just hoping his last film is better, because I'd hate for him to go out on a bad note after a brilliant career of more than thirty years.
