.... only it came out as a very muffled "MMMPHHphhh EEEeeee!!"

She glanced at the clock. The fuse was set to reach its target at eight thirty!

She struggled against the ropes with no effect. Her captor was an expert at ropes!

She glanced at the clock: eight twenty-four!

She pulled futilely at the ropes again as she remembered her captor's parting words, "If I can't have you dear Donna, no one will!"

"Oh God," she thought, "my dearest is suppose to meet me here at eight thirty-five!"

She glanced at the clock as the hand ticked once more: eight twenty-five!

She tried rocking the heavy chair with no effect!

Would her lover arrive early and with two fingers snuff out the deadly fuse?

She glanced at the clock: eight twenty-six!

Or, would her lover pull up to the curb just in time to see the old stately mansion explode?

She glanced at the clock: eight twenty-seven!

Or, would her lover arrive a little later than expected just to gaze upon the smoldering ruins of the once stately home?

Eight twenty-eight!

She heard a noise! Was that a door opening?! Was that footsteps on the stairs?

Or, was it just her hopeful imagination?

....
