Description
Part 3/4.dA undid their retardation regarding the full-view restrictions - so now you can view the comic in its full horror on this page without having to hit the download link.
Steelix is that colour because she's still frozen.
You might want to go back and read this from part 1 - just to remind yourself of where this comic is coming from. It might seem a bit funnier that way too... but I make no promises.
Part 1/4: [link]
Part 2/4: [link]
I'm pretty tired of this comic now, I even forgot the punchline - only remembering where this comic run is supposed to be heading when I opened up the part 4 file a few days ago. When I actually finish the damn thing I doubt I'm going to attempt another four-parter anytime soon.
I've had some good ideas for one-shot comics in the meantime, but because I want to finish this four-part run first, this one is stopping me from doing those, which is annoying.
I'm definitely spending too much time on these high-res artwork comics - when this is done I'll probably go back to doing funny webcomics using flat colours, rather than gradients.
For my STRAY HELIX™ manga/graphic novel thing I'm going to be aiming to use black and white screentones - which I only just figured out how to make in Adobe Illustrator. In the near future I may do some funny webcomics using screentones to give me a chance to practice.
Also, I changed the gradient in the frame from white/blue to white/yellow because that set off the panel artwork better.
Part 4/4: On hold.
I might submit related/unrelated artwork in-between the different parts of this comic - but that doesn't mean I've lost interest in finishing it (even though I sorta have)!

I may actually have lost the linework for it along the way somewhere.
Honestly I'm not really interested in making fan comics any more.

Resort to the Chuggaconroy method. Start chucking what ever you have at it. Something will work eventually.

I really like how you drew the ball just basically breaking apart like a cheap toy! I always wondered about that in the game, since throwing a PokeBall didn't seem to actually explain why I couldn't just run over and use it again. Personally, I would just throw it and sit on it to force it shut or something, but... well... the game mechanics aren't that advanced yet.
Anyhoo, I can't wait for the conclusion!

Ha ha! I can relate. Kurt's balls (ROFL) never work for me when I NEED them to work. When I want them to work is kinda different.
I caught a Gastly in a Moon Ball because I thought it would look kick-ass (and it does). Didn't need it caught in the Moon Ball. Just wanted it.
I tried to catch a Dragonair in a Lure Ball and I ended up wasting all 10 I had!! DX NEEDED to catch it...and I phailed!

Odd. The Steelix, having 7% of her HP left (5HP considering a Steelix's base HP is 75) would've been caught. See, the catch rate of a Steelix is 25 and the catch rate of a heavy ball for a Pokemon that weights 881.8 lbs is 30. Frozen, the catch rate doubles. The equation for that is (((3*75-2*5)*25*30)/(3*75))*2 which makes 1433 which would give you a 562% catch rate.
But then again, it's a comic so all of this is just moot.

Xidphel In reply to Xidphel [2010-05-18 21:48:59 +0000 UTC]
Wait. I got it wrong. The heavy ball adds 30 to the Steelix's catch rate. Her catch rate is 55.
Never mind. It equals 105. 41% chance of catching the Pokemon.

Though my fight with the snorlax in Pokemon Crystal went well.

Hahaha, excellent! Love how the ball smashes open. Made me wonder in the pokemon universe (mostly the anime) how the ball looked after it was used.
The TV version never showed ball being used/broke
Awesome coloring and panel layout! Your designs are so awesome.

Yeah, I just figured the Pokeballs actually fragmented into little bits so you couldn't re-use them.
I'm glad you like the panelling - I try to be inventive with that kind of thing!

Wasn't with an Onix/Steelix, and wasn't with a Kurt Ball, but I've seen failure on quality balls like the Ultra Ball. And I mean failure. I mean "didn't even shake, immediate release" failure. Durn defective Pokeballs.
