Description
Warning: Big file alert.I've always wanted to make a tutorial and I'm officially deep enough into my delusion to think people will actually read it.
So here's a craft foam tutorial on how to make the armor for Fenris's gloves
P.S. You need to modge podge the pieces about 5 times.
It was for tumblr originally so it says by "CosplayKaty" instead of "Donotquestionme"
I tried to post it on tumblr but it doesn't like big files.

May I suggest thermoforming before creating the raised edges and sealing? the glue melts in the heat. It's a mess.

I used a puffy paint which would not have adheredΒ and dried correctly on a curved surface.

I guess, but you suggested using a glue gun if your hands are not too shaky. Simply something I've experienced while trying this. The rest was quite helpful, so thankyou!

Thank you for posting this tutorial! Did you make a tutorial to attach these to your glove base?

No, unfortunately time got away from me, then I lost the pieces. I may make a tutorial of it someday, but it's really straight forward, just use hotglue to attach it to a glove.

Thanks, I will try that. And try not to burn my hand while it is in the glove while hotgluing it.

The details on the edges, is there something else I could use to create them? Becuase we don't have that product here..

3d paint is usually found in any wal-mart or craft store, but you can also use hot glue. In fact, it's probably better to use hot glue because it dries so fast, I just wasn't very good with hot glue back when I made this.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the ratio of water to modge podge when sealing? Or, well when did you know it was a good texture to use?

please be careful when thermoforming craft foam. The chemicals the foam releases when heated are very dangerous and are known to cause cancer. It would probably be a good idea to wear a mask and gloves during the process.
But thermoforming is definitely a great way to make armor if it's done safely. This is a really great tutorial.

hi, i'm making an iron man suit, and i was wondering if you had any ideas to help me put it on once it's done.
(for example just the gloves/forearms) would i have to make them a little bit bigger so that my whole hand can fit through and i can slip it on, or can you think of a way for me to sort of... fasten it. like velcro or something.

I'm not particularly well versed in big armor attachment but I'd think velcro is your best bet.

I've seen some tutorials where they seal the foam after either shaping and glueing it together. Is there a difference in performing the steps in a different order?

It is much easier to paint Mod Podge onto a flat surface.

Are you ever going to make the part 2 of this?

Sorry, I lost the pieces. It's pretty easy from this point on. Just hot glue the pieces to a black glove.

If you don't mind me asking, did you make the pattern by just sketching it out on your hand?

I kind of just eyeballed it.

I don't know. Not very thick. Just standard craft foam thickness.

Great tutorial! Planning to use it for my Albel cosplay
Also, here's a little question: Must I really mix the modpodge with water? Or can I use it plain like that?
π: 0 β©: 1
Donotquestionme In reply to Fragnia [2012-04-30 19:47:38 +0000 UTC]
You can use it like that, but I wouldn't recommend it. It leaves big streaks, general unevenness, and it's harder to brush on. Also, mixing it with water makes the modpodge last longer, which is good because that stuff can be expensive.
