Description Since some of you asked, here is a sample using the font I made for the Baycon '09 theme, the lost cloud city of Pyrocumulon. The alphabet itself was designed by Kimberley Albee, as was the background symbol for Pyrocumulon; I just put it into digital font format and added colors and layer effects in Photoshop. I love Kimmi's design, and have been having fun playing with the font and the legends of Pyrocumulon....

The key to the font is in my Scrapbook:

Don, your alphabet is really instinctive. I plan to try it out just out of curiosity. Thanks for the toy, and for the gallery.

Well, it's Kimberley Albee's alphabet (and not her only one), I just did the computer font of it and this decorative sample. I like this alphabet very much myself, and want to see what you do with it, so have fun.

has anyone got a list of the cons? i would love to do some custom stuff and convention people are wildly imaginative and can be a hoot to work with. Is there a convention list? I tried cosplay - but their site is all but unusable.

Good question. I sell at a small mix of conventions near to me (San Francisco Bay Area). Most are Science-Fiction cons, and there are definitely on-line lists of those. [link] I also sell at the local furry con (there are at least a dozen of those around the country) and two or three other events. My work seems to appeal mainly to people interested in science fiction, fantasy, nature, nature-based religion, and weirdness. But there are also Anime, Comics, and Costume (not cosplay, though some cosplayers attend) and Steampunk cons. And SCA tourneys and RenFaires. Maker Faires with included bazaars. And huge numbers of Seasonal Crafts Fairs. I don't sell at any of those yet. Google searches are your friend.

Neato! The idea reminds me of the Dinotopian foot alphabet, sort of.

I liked the idea of the Dinotopian alphabet (footprint-able). I originally thought the letter arrangement was lacking in imagination, but then realized that it's a reference to the alphabet in Utopia, which is derived from one of the "secret" alphabets of the time, most of which did the same thing (take a shape, rotate; take next shape, rotate...).

I did computer fonts of both the Dinotopian and Utopian alphabets, just for kicks; I've never used them.

I tried to learn the Dinotopian alphabet, you know, be able to recognize the letters on sight. It didn't work very well, but I didn't work that hard at it.

Well, I spent a lot of my spare time back in the 60s calligraphing Tolkien's elvish Tengwar alphabet, and while I learned how to write the letters very well, I never learned to read them, because I never did anything that required reading them. I think it requires a particular type of practice, and you need to keep using it, for some unknown amount of time, or you will gradually forget.

*whistles* Elvish! That reminds me, I want Elvish script tattoo around my wrist. Or at least a sharpie tattoo.

There used to be, and probably still are, some very nice Elvish computer fonts available free on the internet.

Ooh, thanks for telling me! my brothers are far more tech-savvy than me--it never occurred to me that such a thing would be available on the internet.

If you can create an alphabet of your own, I might be able to make it into a computer font.
