Sort of a remake of this: dontknowwhattodraw94.deviantar…Now this time it's Jeholopterus ningchengensis, the largest of the three anurognatid species with a wingspan of about 90 cm. Typical for this group of rhamphorhynchid pterosaurs are their "frog mouths" that are wider than long and have thin needle like teeth ideal for catching insects. The eyes are big and because of the beautiful fossil we have of Jehelopterus we know its wing membrane was covered in pycnofibers, making it capable of silent flight.
Just like that previous drawing I've based its pattern on that of a nightjar.

NOTE: If you look closely you'll see that I covered the entire wing membrane in pycnofibers. That's wrong, they should be naked with only the edge having them.

Apparently, mammals are more closely related to archosaurs than lepidosaurs are!
Combine that with pterosaurs being lepidosaurs, and it means not only are pterosaurs not archosaurs, they are not even sauropsids!

Actually the wing membrane wasn't covered in pycnofuzz- It was naked skin, like all other pterosaurs, except for a fringe along the tips that went maybe 1/3 of the way along the length of the wing. But you can't tell in the picture. Great job! Simultaneously cuddly and terrifying. I feel sorry for the bug.

No, that sounds very likely to me. After all those birds have a very wide mouth too.
