I've been watching Jem and the Holograms since it's came back on the Hub. It was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. The 80s-ness adds to the charm, and the show has plenty of heart too.

One of the problems with my webcomic is that the jokes we do not everyone will get. I wonder if Penny Arcade suffers the same thing.

I tried something different with the inking this time, something Butch Hartman-ish.

Fun shows? Yes. But bad ones.

What do ya mean? The 80s were just bad in general. My Little Pony, Transformers, G.I. Joe. Yeah, you had the occassional Ducktales, but by and large it was simply toy companies that had gotten control of the industry and were using it as just toy commercials that were crappily animated, even less animated sometimes than some of the later 2000s Canadian cartoons.

Hey, even toy-based cartoons can be good. They often find good/decent ways of selling their products. And hey, the animation of most of the shows was acceptable for 1980s television standards.

And those standards were absolute crap. I didn't say they couldn't be entertaining, I said they were bad. The industry should've never gotten to those standards.

Stop trying to focus on what's "new". Old things can be good. And there are the good things in them.

warahi In reply to Wesdaaman [2017-09-30 18:20:12 +0000 UTC]

What's "new"? I ain't focusing on what's "new", I'm focusing on what's "good". Compared to any generation before or after pretty much the 80s cartoons were the worst. Compared to Chuck Jones, Ub Iwerks, Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken, Derrick Wyatt, Bob Clampett, etc. etc.

Wesdaaman In reply to warahi [2017-10-01 01:30:03 +0000 UTC]

They were still good in their own way. You seem to forget about the cartoons with the more serious tones to them

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

warahi In reply to Wesdaaman [2017-10-01 05:43:55 +0000 UTC]

And I'm talking about how they are as cartoons. Other than like Turtles, no "serious" cartoon was all the good. Transformers? Absolute crap animation-wise and usually plotwise. The only "good" thing about it was the movie in the original show. Was it entertaining? Hell yes. But it was shit. Same goes for Thundercats (of which the intro was superior to the entirety of the show) and especially He-Man (which the people that worked on that show usually hated it).

I don't know why Doggy hates the '80s since he's an oldie type of character. Maybe he's just a '20's-'60's person.

The Hub is kind of like Cartoon Network at its prime, except the Hub also airs movies like Superman The Movie (which is cool, since I'm a Superman fan), now all we need is some shows like JLU, Avatar: The Last Airbender and some good classic anime shows like Robotech, Sailor Moon, Astro Boy and DBZ and it will be set.

The Hub was a joint venture between Discovery and Hasbro. What just happened is that Hasbro left his own art of it and left the channel just with Discovery. However, Discovery is in no way gonna leave Hasbro's shows escape its grasp: While Transformers: RID is now in Cartoon Network, all the other stuff remains in the channel. The only difference is now Discovery programming in the primetime.

Also, I saw the Puss in Boots movie. Confusing plot twist and villain, but otherwise fun.

after the mlp they just remade pound puppies, thundercats and now they just sold Ninja turtles 2 nickelodeon.
WHEN WILL IT END?!

They never owned the Turtles per se, as the original is an R-rated comic.

You'd think Penny Arcade would suffer from the same thing, instead it gets popular and we wind up with a dozen copies.

I usually get the jokes, I rarely watch the Hub.

While they should air some new stuff, it is nice to see things from your generation, sort of a nostalgia trip (if only I grew up with it)

I heard The N might be having a sort of block later in the fall dedicated to 90's shows like All That, The Amanda Show, Pete and Pete, and I believe Rocket Power too.
