I like how the anatomy is altered to be a bit more Square-Cube Law resistant. The giant legs and mandibles are especially cool.

Definitely a monster that can challenge the king of monster
or add him (believe it or not but kumonga is one of godzillas allies )

This is very neat. Due to the ground perspective, it has a bit of an abstract appearance to it.
I remember a 'Gilligan's Island' episode that featured a giant, roly-poly spider capturing everyone in a cave. (Just like that scene from 'Son of Godzilla'. You don't suppose TOHO ripped-off 'Gilligan's Island'?!?!?)

He looks exactly like a tarantula. Legendary needs this design if they ever use kumonga for a movie. Great work Dopepope!

Thank you. This Kumonga was closely based on the concept art I was provided by the G:H director. And that concept art was pretty faithful to the original look of Kumonga, but had a lot of subtle differences. So, I kept those, but tried to keep the showa look of Kumonga. Always thought the showa Kumonga was one of the coolest giant insect/arachnid movie monsters. very effective. 'The Deadly Mantis' was very well done too, for the time.

I gotta say, old black and white movies just have a much darker atmosphere to them. The giant mantis, the claw, Godzilla, Gamera, Kong, them, tarantula all great films that are often trashed talked.

nah. The real fans see beyond the shit effects and bask in the imaginative awe. : )
the new level of effects are pretty nice tho. But I agree, that b&w oldskool feel has been absent for a while now. Very atmospheric. THEM was a good one too.
