of course i did. if not i couldnt tell you what i just told.
i think it was a pretty nice ending. mercer is awesome of course, but in this story he is evil, and its nearly never that the evil foe wins at the end. so i expected it.
and if you are playing on PC the mercer-skin will make you happy maybe^^

err dude. I'm in Romania and I got [PROTOTYPE] from my cousin who downloaded it via torrent... And I have it since it came out... Sooo.... I see you use Euros so that means you're in Europe so it doesn't really make any sense how come you can't get the first game but you got the second

Artezz In reply to KuroiSpeedster55 [2012-09-05 16:47:55 +0000 UTC]
In german speaking areas of Europe (Austria, Germany, Switzerland) there is a much more strict age limit of games, so the first one wasnΒ΄t sold here. It seems that the second part contains less blood and violence, so yeah

The way i see it, the focus is that since Mercer lived only for revenge, he never saw any of the good in humanity. I mean, how far can revenge take you? All it does in the end is make you what you hate. James grew up learning to see the positives as WELL as the faults in people, where Mercer could only focus on the faults. Also, Alex hardly considered himself a human being, whereas James, despite what Alex did to him, still thought of himself as human deep down. In the end, James also had something to tie him down to reality. the fact that he lived as a human being before he became a prototype, while Mercer never let himself form ties or bonds with anyone, and his sociopathic personality left him isolated, even form his sister, and always alone. James had a family, people who saw him at his worst and best and were always there, loving him no matter what.
That is, i think, the main reason for how Heller was able to beat Mercer.{aside from being a total bad-ass}

Now this is some juicy info i think that will be great for a remake/reboot of the prototype series i mean don't get me wrong the gameplay can be kept but the stoties and the characters need a serious change from it blandness at least prototype 1 does anyway i'm fine with prototype 2 since i think it's THE TRUE PROTOTYPE 1.

Thanks. I think so too. The way he is portrayed in the first game, Mercer comes across as more of a villan in the making, rather then an actual fleshed-out anti-hero. Heller matches the Anti-hero vibe because, while he has no qualms about killing those he finds guilty by his own rules, his goals have a shred of nobility in it, thanks to his past life and obligations. He's able to more relate to how an avarege human would react if forced through what he has seen and been through.
Had Mercer been shown as forming bonds with humans around him, and had other humans, like his sister Dana, showing him first hand that there was a good soul for every bad one, it would have made him a much more relatible protagonist. I also think that making him an escental clone of the original scientest Mercer was a mistake as well.
If I'd been writing, I would have had it so that Mercer was a scientist that created the virus because he lost faith in humanity already, and willingly altered himself because he believed he was instigating the next step in human evolution. His experences (his memories of his childhood would be intact) would help guide his views, and over time, people like Dana could have shown him that humans are worth preserving and protecting, and that having those bonds can be worth the most. That it's okay to be an individual - flaws and all, rather then a hive-minded human, and that evolution can't be forced on people. They have to want change.
That's what I would have done, rather then the "make him a generic sociopath" path the writers gave him.

Yeah well if that was me I'd have Alex's past changed completely like say losing his REAL parents and siblings in a car crash, him havingΒ to travel and getting a low paying job while living in an apartment by himself.Β
Have him adopted into a new family, find out that the parents jobs aren't that high paying and doing something to help out like be a street fighter after quitting his first job. Have him go to school and MAKE SOME FRIENDS, have his parents, school mates, peers, and adopted siblings from different countries worry about him. Have him quit when they tell him too.
Continue going to school, go to military school and training with the Navy, have him do missions for them and when he gets back through train, see people dying from some kind of viral outbreak and have him get infected with it and become aΒ Prototype along with whoever started the outbreak. THAT is what I think would have made Alex not only interesting but also relatable as well but to make him more tragic than he already is have the responsible person kill his friends and family in the process to wound Alex emotionally since he can take physical wounds on a daily basis.

Now that makes more sense though I don't know if Alex should stay a scientist I was thinking about making him a navy seal with losing his family along with Elizabeth Greene who was born in the same timeline as him and Greene being a Marine with Alex and Elizabeth wanting revenge and getting Prototype powers in the process by the evil scientists who released the new virus on the world.

Yeah if a remake of this series is ever made at all the way i would want it is for Alex to have friends and one friends betray them out of hate and spite for the world and Alex and the others wanting to stop him/her from destroying humanity.

He did form a relationship with Karen Parker along the way so i wouldn't say he never let himself form bonds with anyone but whatever you like anti-heroes with show emotions it's your loss.
π: 0 β©: 1
009-863beta In reply to fred45erthas [2012-11-22 02:22:38 +0000 UTC]
I remind you that Karen Parker cared about the ORIGINAL Mercer, not the Mercer created by the blacklight virus. To her, that was not Mercer. To her, the real Mercer died in that train station (which isn't technacaly wrong).
And Mercer did NOT have a bond like that. He just remembered the echo of what the original Mercer had. He had no feelings like that to her. He simply felt an obligation to his past life to trust her.
The only bond he could ever really have had was with his sister, and even then, she was kept at a distance. At least Heller took a chance and allowed people to get close to him.
Looking at the games, Heller was more "human" then Mercer was.
π: 0 β©: 2
AlexMercer45 In reply to 009-863beta [2013-04-03 23:23:32 +0000 UTC]
So what you are saying is that if we played as the human Alex Mercer with the powers of the virus we could have found him to be relatable and if swore more and more bonds we would like him more is that what you're saying or is it something else entirely?
π: 0 β©: 1
009-863beta In reply to AlexMercer45 [2013-06-01 07:24:10 +0000 UTC]
I'm saying that had Mercer shown some actual humanity, he would have been more relatible. People like Heller because he acts like an actual human would in that situation - he'd lose his sh*t at first and not know what the hell do do about it. If he'd had some form of attachment to his family or past life, or any sort of bond, we could have related more to the alienation he felt from life given what he became.
So yes, had he stayed a human that was afflicted with the virus, I think he would have been more relatible.

AlexMercer45 In reply to 009-863beta [2013-07-04 21:41:52 +0000 UTC]
Well I was thinking of making Prototype fic where Alex is cloned but shows more emotion in him and the Alex I'll be using is the human one who saw everything the virus wearing did and is disgusted by its actions on humans. Does that sound good to you or not?
π: 0 β©: 1
009-863beta In reply to AlexMercer45 [2013-07-11 02:01:56 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it actually does. And given that bits of Mercer were likely tossed all across the bay of New York from the nuke explosion in the first game, there would be an ample amount of oppertunity for samples of Mercer's DNA to be recovered. I always found it hard to believe that Blackwatch wouldn't try to recover some sample of Mercer following the first game's ending.
