Description Body forms. Series 3.1

"If our mind is shaped by our experiences, so too, our body shaped by our repeated actions. The uselesness of the body builders craft is akin to the mental agility of little practical application enjoyed by the 'idiot savant'. To have our form shaped though, by the obsessions that we undertake, is to create a wonderful landscape to explore. To enjoy the naked form as art is to grow beyond the human desires we feel. And thus we open up a whole new world of beauty, hitherto only seen as stimulus" - Doug

Great shot !

It's 'simple' but full of 'movement'.
The pose are really great, gives feeling of movement.
And I do like a lot all that negative space you left there, it really gives different 'view' to photo.

i'd like a tighter crop on this - the form is fabulous and you did a great job in lighting

My own feeling on the form within these shots was that the background so so totally nuetral that the form itself would take on a semi human attachment to the world. My only real concern was how much of the pedestal to tie into the shot. It would have been nicer to have the form slightly higher in the frame but I didnt want any more box.

as beautiful DesignGeek said, it's like a starting block position
the picture is wonderful... i worship the female body and your photographs of it but my ONLY complaint is the gray background... it's just TOO gray ... hmm... maybe it could be a little darker or lighter... i don't know.
but that's a matter of personal taste, i know
it's a great piece of art and study of the human body nevertheless, of course

many kisses my dear
Miriam

I knew the greyness was going to be a love or hate thing. I adored the boringness of it though I suppose that it is partly playing with light a lot recently has left me hankering for a total omission of extraneous detail. Thanks as always for your brilliant comments

She' simply beautiful, such expressiveness and mood within the pose and facial features of her profile. I like the tones and contrasts, perfect blends, not overly stated.

She exhibits determination, as if she's about to begin a rebirth, she has both strength and softness, and her sacred feminine "chalice" is well placed, alongside the sacred masculine.

I loved her shape and strength too, you are so right about the fine mix of the finer parts of humanity (as a mix of the masculine and feminine). The idea of a chalice is very appealing

fine picture, i really like the big gray space! but i think it lacks some contast.. anyway really good composition, i dont agree with olddragon about the her visual point, if the where looking straight ahead it would be a different picture.

i am missing a bit of the tenseness you would have in such a position, instead of looking down she should look straight ahead. just what i think
very good work though!

Gorgeous lighting (yep, I'm a little jealous). Nice pose and stuff.

How do you manage to get such a background?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dougbtn In reply to brecht [2003-12-08 11:24:16 +0000 UTC]

The background is just a varying degree of shdow on white. The scene was lit with 2 strip lights and the shadow depth created with bounces and spill kills.

Do you have your own studio? Your shots are always so clean. I want a studio but I have a feeling I would just get messier.

Lovely as always, my dear!

Its not my studio unfortunately but I use it when I need the extra space. It is wonderful to have the room and not have to pack too much away at the end

OK we KNOW and SEE that you are a brilliant photographer (kissed by the muses I'd say) and therefore my humble comments can be little more (or less) than superflous.
She looks, as *danisan would say, poised.

What really turns me on (in the most encompassing way) is the thought of Doug the Thinker.
(Licking my lips again). The bit about enjoying the naked form as art and growing beyond my desires: I experienced this (when I did life drawing) at first with a sense of puzzlement and then understanding if not to say elation and exhileration.

I love the way she's been placed on a block, the way the lighting comes from in front of her and the way it seems like she about to explode into life from the starting block position she is posed in. Also like the vast amounts of negative space surrounding her .. exceptional well thought out, planned and executed piece of work my friend
