Description There are now six Medici balls . ------ I was really just responding to a comment ( see below ) - about the 'Medici Balls ' --it's a fun thing - so I altered this piece a bit when I sent it out for another go-round . My general way of working is to select from my everyday photos --- objects ( subjects ) that I then arrange according to what 'feels' right - the feel thing comes mostly from the subconscious. Initially the 'Medici Balls ' came from the title on the spine of a book ( in a row of books I photographed in a used book store ) ---- I just thought it was an interesting title .
, now I know more about it . ----All the photos used are my own - with some painting on and post-work .

Medici as the medici on da vinci era?

DouglasHumphries In reply to FabioRosado [2019-09-08 19:26:37 +0000 UTC]

Well - part of this  composition came from
a row of books I had photographed -- One of the books
was titled 'The Medici Balls' --- I just liked the title
without knowing anything about it's meaning . It was
intended to be just a collection of objects that could
evoke a feeling . ---------- but when people commented on
the crest for the Medici family -- I looked it up and saw that
their family crest contained 6 balls --- so I altered the piece
to reflect that fact - just for fun really . ----- and yes , I now
understand that the Medici family ruled for about 300 years
and it was during the Da Vinci era .

Six of them to be exact. Their family emblem, five red balls (palle, in Italian) and one blue, on a gold shield, decorate numerous buildings all over Florence and Tuscany-any palazzo, church or monument to which the Medici had connections or that was financed using Medici money.
I still like this Douglas so I had to do a little research on Medici balls.

DouglasHumphries In reply to UrbieD [2019-05-31 01:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes --- well , at first it was just the title from an old book . Then while
looking at some slides from a friend's trip to Italy - I began to realize
the origin of that title . So anyway there are now 6 balls - added one since the last
go 'round ------ ( am counting the male dog's two --is that lazy ? )
Glad you still like it Richard !

where does this come from ? --- I'm never sure --- but as an example --just hearing someone play a little riff like in the following
video --triggers all kinds of creative inspirations . probably wouldn't do it for most people ( each to his or her own ) -- but it's little
things like this that might be like going to church for someone else and having a spiritual moment -- I'm not into religion -- but little things implant in me something that keeps me going .
It's just one example  - and doesn't always come when you want or need it . But it just trips a wire inside that pushes you forward
and in that moment - it is enough to make life worthwhile ------------ www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOhqdT…

I have an old Gibson acoustic guitar (1962 LG1) that I like to use while I am deciding which way to go with a painting.  I am no Pat Metheny but I just like to go through  a few chord progressions that help me think (mostly C-D-G with some lift offs).

DouglasHumphries In reply to UrbieD [2018-11-10 19:15:03 +0000 UTC]

That's a fine guitar , indeed . Also like the Gibson J-45 and J-200 jumbo which
Greg Lake used to use on his acoustic numbers , But all a bit out of my price range ! - lol
--I have a Seagull  acoustic / electric ( Natural Elements ) at the moment - which I'm
pretty sure will be my last guitar . Had a few nice guitars in the past ----but never got too
much past learning to play 'established songs ' ( l Down By the River , etc ) -- I like all kinds of styles
-- but mostly blues --hard to do full note bends on mine , Ideally would also have an electric ( Strat or Tele ) -
with lighter gage strings  --- then could learn to play more improvised blues runs !

Just like the feel of my fingers on the fret-board, basically . It's always fun to bounce from  Photoshop to playing
guitar -( esp when you feel in the groove and the guitar is in tune ! ) I have a little Micro Cube Amp -- which is quite fun
( 'Cinnamon Girl ' - sounds almost passable .
------ was always better at
art than guitar playing ---  have always played for fun ------ never have disciplined myself to
learn scales and practice , practice , practice ! -------------------- maybe someday ,
Sorry for being so wordy !

I've been messing with guitars for 50 years but always as secondary to art.  I like cheap-os that I can make sound interesting.  This Gibson I bought at a pawn shop in 1980 for $175.  It is my favorite.  I gave up on two and sent them to my son. He has actually played and sang in front of people.  Kept an old Yamaha classical ($60) and a used Martin composite acoustic electric ($550).  I also have a hundred year old violin. I tried to play it as a fiddle for about a month. I almost learned 'Arkansas Traveller'.  It is loud!

Yeah --guitars - instant and continuing attraction .
Kay --Framus -- Mosrite - Vox -- Gibson SG
( sold  a really vintage arch top Gibson acoustic my brother
gave me - always regretted that ) -- and a then had string of off brand acoustics .

Love guitars !
