Princess Luna woke with a start; she immediately regretted the sudden action as her head throbbed with a dull aching pain. She laid

her head back on the pillow, dealing with nightmares always gave her a headache, especially that many. She jumped at a knock at the

door, realizing it was the noise that woke her in the first place, “Princess?” the guard knocked again “my sincerest apologies majesty,

but it’s time to raise the sun, you instructed me to wake you.” Luna rolled off the bed and walked to her bedroom door, nearly running

into the young guard as she opened it. “Oh good morning princess, sleep well at all?” Luna slid past him heading for the balcony “as

well as I ever do these days.” The guard began to walk alongside her, “it was a beautiful night, eh majesty?” the guard was making an

obvious effort to cheer her, futile endeavor. “Is there something you need to say guard?” Luna stopped facing him, he cleared his throat

“there is a small problem I haven’t been able to fix majesty” Luna sighed, she was positively sick of problems needing fixing “what

exactly is the problem?” shifting his hooves in discomfort the guard explained “let’s just say there is someone waiting for you at the

balcony”. Luna had a feeling her headache was about to get much worse. “I will see to it, you are dismissed, and thank you for waking

me” the guard simply smiled “my pleasure princess” and the left her alone. She walked the length of the hall, turning into a vast open

room to see the large serpentine body of Discord sprawled lazily on the white marble floor, his head resting on the balcony railing. His

ears flicked in response to her hooves trotting noisily towards him. “Good morning princess” he raised his head in greeting. “Why are

you here Discord?” Luna retorted, Discord snorted “oooh, straight to the point for princess buzzkill”. Luna’s scowl worsened, “fine, be

that way, kill the conversation before it begins, I've come to watch the sunrise”. Luna’s scowl was overtaken by a look of confusion

“watch the sunrise? That’s it? I don’t have time for your shenanigans you erratic beast, tell me why you’re here.” Discord pretended to

look hurt “beast? Oh poor choice of language princess, now you’ve hurt my feelings, I’m wounded” Discord let his body sink all the way

to the floor just to show how hurt he was. “Get up Discord, your games are not amusing. The guards tell me you’ve been sulking around

the castle for weeks, WHY? You’re not even doing anything, GET UP!” Luna raised her hooves and brought her full weight down on the

great beast’s stomach, turning him slightly, causing him curl up in pain. “OOF, fine, FINE, I’m up, I’m up” Luna backed away, letting him

return to the sitting position. “Violence doesn’t exactly become you princess” Luna only looked back “This whole mess is fun for you isn’t

it?” her voice was vicious, she was becoming angrier “The whole country in ruins from this damned war” her tone turned mocking “must

be a playground for the king of chaos, am I wrong?” Discord turned on her suddenly “OH you would think that wouldn’t you?” his

change in tone surprising Luna “This isn't exactly my brand of chaos princess Luna, this is war. It is death, carnage, a disease of hatred

spreading like the plague, infecting every pony. You think I like games? Well the games no fun when all the players are dead.” Discord

fell silent, keeping his gaze on her until he turned away, staring blankly into the sky. Luna said nothing, only looked at him. The playful

glint had gone from his eyes, and for the first time in millenniums, Discord looked his age. “You’ve been sulking, tell my why” Discord

shifted in obvious discomfort “It’s not like I haven’t done anything” he said “turned a guard pink the other day “ Luna was becoming

annoyed again “I know, I’m the one who changed her back” she got closer to discord, her voice became soft and low “Discord, you miss

her, don’t you?” Discord only looked away from her, once again peering into the dim light of the moon. “She wasn’t all that boring you

know” Luna just stared “Can you please raise the sun now princess, I think every pony would like to see it again.” Luna nodded

extending her wing she let it rest upon his shoulder as they shared a look of understanding. Folding her wing back in place Luna jumped

onto the railing of the balcony. She let herself fall off its edges, as her wings caught herself she raised her horn and began to lower the

moon, making way for a new dawn.

This is the 3rd picture in a series I'm doing for a contest is hosting, on my "The Queen is Dead" story. I thought it would be interesting to show how Discord is dealing with the whole scenario and I threw some Luna in there too . Hope you like it!
