Description Bit of a change-up in layout for this reference. I've literally spent MONTHS trying to get her design right, sketching ideas and everything, even COMPLETING an entire reference (which was was going to post but wasn't happy with). If you're curious, you can see some of them here: sta.sh/21zy80hlgf4l?edit=1

Name: Scarlet [SKAHR-let]

Nickname: Scar (used by friends and partners, but mostly by mother)
Gender: She-cat (cisgender)
Age: 3 years (29 cat years)

Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

Romantic Orientation: Demiromantic

Mate: Leola

Breed: Serengeti – Oriental Shorthair mix
Size: 10 in height, 11 in in length (not including tail)
Weight: 1 kg (2,2 lb)

Physique/Build: Airy and thin, built for speed and aerodynamics. Musculature is trained, overall muscle mass is lacking, making her lightweight (along with other factors resulting from flight capabilities). Long limbs with round paws. Large chest for expanded respiration (flight capabilities), with narrow yet squared shoulders. Ears are wide and large, resembling that of a serval's.

Fur: Short and soft, well-groomed to maintain aerodynamic smoothness.

Eyes: Almond-shaped, coloured a dark brown with a red-toned shine.

Personality:

  • Curious but intrusive – An interest in discovery of the unknown or mysterious, spanning primarily from her enjoyment of education, though it is not limited to it. Curiosity will expand to social life with her goals of discovery leading her to pry into the deeper regions of someone's character, whether it be secrets, weaknesses, fears, et cetera. This plays into building stronger relationships, but at times the curiosity can be too prying and invasive. Additionally, in favour of the phrase “curiosity killed the cat,” her invasive curiosity has led to discovering things best left undiscovered and she has since paid the price on various occasions.

  • Diplomatic but altruistic – A leadership quality given by her mother, though instead with goals of pacifism and justice, aiming to satisfy both ends of conflicts or deliver consequences to pay for injustices. A role of the leader comes with self-endangering selflessness where she would, at times, prefer to martyr herself in her goal for peace and balance. Such a concern for others leaves little concern for herself and she often will end up facing punishment and consequences made for another.

  • Cautiously loyal – Outwardly wears a social, friendly, and compassionate persona. The facade is not entirely false, but the portrayed loyalty is burdened by skepticism and close observation of intentions and feelings within a relationship, resulting in her easily being able to break ties. However, because of the caution and meticulous time going into her loyalty, it's a strong bond once earned, only making breaking ties difficult in cases of break-ups, abuse, or death.

  • Emotional – Strongly compassionate and protective, with intense passion and emotional capacity inherited from mother. When kept at bay, her mind can work over her heart, but her emotions are easily riled up and can quickly grow intense, especially in cases of injustice, recollections of past traumas, and anger (feelings of intense anger are rare due to pacifist morals, but certain people have since earned her unforgiving emotion).

Occupations:

  • [Solo/Blitz/Raid] Raptor of Iero: Worked as a Raptor (airborne fighter) in the birthplace of Iero during the war. (Solo) Carried out attacks, both stealth and ambush, on specialty targets or individual missions. (Blitz) Carried out overwhelming attacks with other raptors primarily involving bombardment. (Raid) Accompanied or led squadrons into territories, campgrounds, etc. prior to a planned attack.

  • Consort of Souterain: Served as a mate to leader of Souterain, acting as a breeder for heirs.

Affiliation: None, Iero (birthplace, former), Souterain (temporarily, former).

Mother: Valka

Father: Grim

Step-father: Amund (mate to Grim)

Siblings: Cathe (half-brother)

Daughter: Kleo (with Leo)
Son: Vali (with Leo)

Significant Relationships:

  • Valka – Mother/daughter (parental).

    • Relationship held highest in her priorities. Val has been her source of bravery, confidence, and strength as she aged, contrasting other lessons set by her father which restricted her to the norms of a she-cat. Naturally, her mother provides comfort and security, and she has since been forgiven for her actions as Chief. A need for validation and acceptance has always been sought out upon learning that her very birth was a tool in a scheme to maintain the friendship of her parents, this fact being the source of jealousy and resentment towards her half-brother whom her mother had given away upon birth to prevent him from such a fate.

  • Leola – Romantic companions.

    • A relationship built on stability, security, and reassurance. Both provide a balance for one another: down-to-earth Leo mentally grounds Scarlet, calming her surging anxieties and providing emotional and physical sanctuary that aids in her sense of safety. Scarlet provides Leo with the care and nurturing she's been denied to in her life, as well as the validation and acceptance she constantly strives for, helping to stabilize her damaged self-esteem. A problem of self-sacrifice arises from both parties however. Leo, having always served and looked to someone for orders her entire life, has since found such a candidate in Scar, giving flesh and blood and going to dangerous extents to be worthy of. Scarlet has always dealt with sacrificing herself, and having previously worked as a canary and saving Leo's life, she's often endangering herself to protect her mate. Fortunately, this is something both have addressed.

  • Amund – Step-father/daughter (parental).

    • Her source of freedom and self-expression and exploration during the dysfunction of her birth parents. With her mother, Scarlet was taught to be brave, strong, and keen with intentions of making her a successor. With her father, Scarlet was taught to be neat, pretty, and smart in order to meet perfection for his future son-in-law. Amund served as a source for her to be free from such hard expectations where she can be Scarlet and not an image of one of her parents.

Powers:

  • Flight Capabilities: Inherited from father's flight capabilites, but altered.

    • Able to summon 2.7 ft wings and shift her tail into maneuverable feathers, enabling her to fly and to control her course.

    • Body is slender and smaller than genetically meant to be, allowing for lower mass and a more aerodynamic form.

    • When wings/tail are summoned, her bones will become even less dense to lower her weight further.

    • Tears are thickened to protect eye when flying at high speeds.

    • Respiratory system is altered, having a larger chest for higher expansion (therefore larger breaths) and incorporating air sacs for more efficient oxygen intake.

  • Fire: Inherited from mother's fire abilites of manipulation and generation, but lacking manipulation and further altered.

    • Thermal resistance and regulation aka she's immune to the damage of fire and high temperatures and is able to control her body temperature.

    • Able to generate fire from her body, but the amount/size of the flames depends on the level of energy she currently has.

      • Use of fire heightens her metabolism, also being another cause for such a thin, light frame.

    • Unable to control/manipulate for from neither herself or outside sources.

Physical Stats

Strength: Measure of bodily or muscular power.

  • 4/16. Scarlet greatly lacks muscle mass, leading to having low strength and being less skilled in close combat.

Speed: Measure of rapidity in movement and performance.

  • 11/16 (without flight capabilities). Having such a lightweight body with trained muscles (for what muscle she has) and agility allows for exceptional swiftness.

  • 16++/16 (with flight capabilities). In flight, she can reach speeds of up to 200 mph in dives, with a horizontal speed of ~150 mph.

Flexibility: Measure of body's contortion ability.

  • 12/16. With body tissues being more malleable due to flight capabilities and her body being overall lacking bulky muscle, her body is very limber.

Dexterity: Measure of skill in using hands or body.

  • 11/16. Training has worked her hand-eye coordination, especially when coupled with her need for control and focus when in flight.

Endurance: Measure of sustain/hold out against physical work.

  • 14/16. Primarily stamina. Because of a more efficient air intake system, she's able to withstand work for longer periods of time without fatiguing.

Will: Power of controlling one's actions.

  • 10/16. Scarlet is rather impulsive, or rather works best on impulse. Planning of her thoughts leads to overthinking and loss of control.

Vitality: Capacity for survival.

  • 9/16. She's rather healthy aside from a few problems with fertility and reproduction.

  • 6/16. Bones lacking in density (especially during flight) leads to high vulnerability to breaks.

Combat: Measure of skill in fighting and tactics.

  • 7/16. Her combat relies mostly around agility and endurance on ground. Actually coming hand-to-hand can be dangerous because of lack of strength, but training specific to her body type makes her more or less prepared.

  • 11/16. In flight, such high speeds translate into powerful hits, making her able of out-maneuvering on-ground targets (and many sky-bound enemies) and even incapacitate attackers.

Facts and Trivia:

  • Scarlet's since replaced an old character of mine named Sapphire who was the daughter to Red-eye (currently Valka) and Issac, another old character formerly named Shadow.

  • Her name comes from her father's desire to name her Ruby because he thought it was a “beautiful, elegant colour” and her mother's desire to name her Scar for the strength and brutality of it. They both settle on Scarlet.

    • This is the reason why Val calls her by her nickname, Scar, more than her actual name.

  • (Human version) She's my shortest character despite being 5'5” aka not actually that short. Other characters average around 6 ft tall.

  • She's taken on many companions, thought few have been truly romantic. Despite severing many of these relationships, she still remains good friends with them.

  • She's been pregnant twice before. First was a miscarriage, second was a stillborn.

    • Having twins was a means of returning these pregnancies.

  • Her mate, Leola, is 25x heavier than her.

    • As humans, Leo is almost 5x heavier than Scarlet at around 430 lb.

  • Difficulty with pregnancies was inherited by her grandmother, Tori, who died giving birth to Val.

    • During her labour prior to giving birth to Kleo and Vali, Scarlet grew very weak and neared death, throwing Trench, her grandfather who'd lived through Val's birth, into uncontrollable panic, leading Val to take control of the situation.

    • Leo was not allowed to be present during the birth.

  • Vali was named in respect to her mother, Valka. Kleo was named after Leo, firstly as a joke made by her but was then accepted by Scarlet.
