Description

Name: Valka [VAHL-kaw]

Nickname: Val [vahl]
Gender: She-cat
Age: 5.5 years (39 cat years)

Sexual Orientation: Bisexual

Romantic Orientation: Aromantic
Mate: None.

Breed: Maine Coon – Serengeti mix.
Size: 14 in (36 cm) at ears, 21 in (53 cm) body length (not including tail)
Weight: 13 lb (5.8 kg)

Physique/Build: Valka is a dangerous blend of muscular and slim. She's tall and large, and even if only a couple of inches taller than average, her squared shoulders and powerful chest is enough to give her a pose of intimidation and authority. Athletic and long, she walks on significantly long limbs that are, like the rest of her body, very muscularly cut. Her body is made for resistance, and while not the strongest or the fastest in her army, she is a perfectly dangerous mix.

Fur: While not as long as her father's, she makes up for it in thickness. Her pelt is incredibly dense and is definitely longer than a typical shorthair's, especially along the spine of her neck where the longest of her fur stands on end more than the rest of her pelt is capable of. It's commonly found to be grimy and rough due to a lack of grooming and scarring underneath the surface. Her ears wear fluffy white tufts.

Eyes: Despite being coloured in the same palette of flames, her eyes are cold. Angular and intense, they are very capable of a chilling glare. Her right eye is a golden-amber while the right is an orange-crimson and crossed with two scars.

Movement: She's quick and she's accurate. It's almost as though her movements are messy and unskilled, but her strikes land where she wants them too and with the effect she intends, even if her goal is to be ruthless and savage. Occasionally, she can be more calculated and dark, preferring stealth and fear as her tactic. At these times she can become robotic.

Gait: She walks like the leader she once was: head high, tail erect, and stare lidded icily. However, there's a heaviness to her steps that makes her seem uncaring and gritty, while also prowling.

Personality:

  • Passionate but obsessive – Val is truly a very passionate character. When her heart is locked onto something, she won't weasel out on how much she cares for it; her interest and drive will be intense for whatever it is she wants, whether it's the love of her family, or a trustful companion. However, for the majority of her life, this passion was centered on revenge, and this revenge was a satiation she would fulfill no matter the cost. Her passion can often lead to unhealthy obsession, even at the cost of herself.

  • Responsible but manipulative – She's a born leader. Assertive, disciplinary, and tactical, she can effortlessly command armies, and she's exceptionally skilled in bending these armies to her will, as well as anyone else she needs something out of. Usually her manipulation comes in the form of tricky persuasion and a silk tongue. However, sometimes it's also emotionally warping, sometimes involving guilting, threat, and/or fear tactics.

  • Loyal but suspicious – Her trust is incredibly difficult to full earn. Because of trust issues, she's always on the lookout for trickery and deceit, but this makes her incredibly suspicious of others, and in turn, distrustful. A life of being used and molded, then being targeted and alone as an insurgent leader has, unfortunately, ruined her trustfulness. Luckily, she's loyal, and while she may not give you her complete trust, you can definitely trust that she'll never turn against you if she cares for you, no matter the cost.

  • Cruel and unforgiving – She was a feared leader for a reason. There was never any mercy in what she did. In and out of battle, she was ruthless and uncaring for the most part (mostly the ruthless part. There were times when she cared), punishing where she saw needed even if it wasn't truly needed, and never letting an enemy flee or surrender even if they wanted to. Take this cruelty and multiply it by infinite if you've wronged her because there is no chance she will change her outlook on who you are and you will get the punishment you deserve.

  • Amorous but disconnected – It's likely that the only emotions you've seen Val express are anger and snark. Rarely will she show you anything else, and this is mostly on purpose; her closed-off personality is a defense mechanism much like Leo's. However, at times, this can also come from an unhealthy upbringing that made it difficult for her to share her feelings and care for someone. She longs for deep connections with others, especially her family, but having been stolen from her sole parent and deprived of the parenting skills needed to properly care for her children, she doesn't how. To add to things, her lack of romantic attraction wears on her more, primarily in the case of her one true friendship ruined by a crush she didn't want to reciprocate, and her actions to try and maintain the friendship resulted in a dysfunctional relationship.

  • Unrelenting and powerful – Her determination drives her. It's almost as if she doesn't feel pain at all (she does) when she's in battle, as no matter what you hit her with, she will keep fighting with the same intensity that she began with. Even when blinded with her own blood, she will power through it all. Of course, she's not invincible; just because she can hold onto her will to fight, doesn't mean all of her will and determination will keep her alive. Sometimes it is her downfall.

Occupation: Chief Insurgent and Prime Centurion (formerly, dethroned), King's Bearer (formerly); mother (current).

Mother: Tori, deceased.
Father: Trench, alive.
Siblings: Stella (Alive, half-sister), Soot (Deceased, half-brother).

Sires: Grim (father of Scarlet, alive), Arild (father of Cathe, deceased).

Daughter: Scarlet (Alive).
Son: Cathe (Alive).

Grandson: Vali (Not yet conceived).

Grandaughter: Kleo (Not yet conceived).

Significant Relationships:

  • Scarlet – (History) Having Scarlet was a strategic plan on Val's part. Grim was her best friend and the first person she cared for deeply, but when he admitted his romantic interest in her, she had no idea what to do. She didn't reciprocate the feelings, but she didn't want to let him down and ruin the friendship, so she did the only thing she could do: strategize. Getting pregnant was her plan as that would solidify their relationship and they could be together as parents. That was the plan, but Grim being asexual (specifically apothisexual, or sex repulsed), he wasn't too happy with it. Of course, he wanted a child and that's why he consented to conceiving her, but that's about as far as his appreciation got. Eventually, their relationship fell apart right before Scarlet's birth and her main guardians became Grim and his new lover, Dotter, with Val not exactly being welcomed into the family. Nevertheless did she visit her daughter and played with her, talked with her, and even taught her things like combat, assertiveness, and bravery (while all she was really learning from her fathers was how to read and write and look presentable for a husband).

    • Scarlet was Val's second chance at being a mother and she didn't squander it no matter the circumstances. Her daughter turned out to be more forgiving and compassionate than Val could even dream of being, and this paid off in the long run when Scarlet forgave her mother for not being entirely in her life while her firstborn, Cathe, completely resented her. Not only is Scarlet the only child who cares about her mother, but she also cares for her, doing things like making meals and making Val eat for once, laying down for naps to help with Val's insomnia, and generally nurturing her mother. Val doesn't believe she deserves such a wonderful daughter, but Scarlet says otherwise.

  • Trench – (History) Around the age of four, Val was stolen from her father, and they didn't meet again until Val was dethroned from her position of power and defeated. The father did nothing but care for his daughter her whole life, even when she killed her mother during childbirth, or became a tyrannical leader, or even when she tried to kill him and accused him of kidnapping her when he found her after her defeat. Their relationship is uneven.

    • Trench is the parental figure Val has needed all her life. He cares for her, nurses her, teaches her, everything, even when Val behaves like a pubescent, moody teenager rebelling against her parents. In truth, she knows she needs him and is grateful for him being back in her life, but she'll never admit it. She will, however, admit that she's learning valuable parenting skills from him, even if her children are adults now.

  • Leo – (History) Both Leo and Valka experienced similar/the same upbringing in the training program of Arild the tyrant. The program was training children to essentially be drones, mindless soldiers who can be disposed of by being put to use to defend his efforts. Val is older, however, and became an insurgent leader before Leo turned 10. Leo was conditioned to be a savage warrior, made to take down the tyrant's strongest enemy. Val and Leo frequently met in battle in ruthless clashes often ending in Val winning, but being too battered to truly end the rivalry once and for all. After Val faked her death, Leo quickly lost meaning in life, and when they met again through ties to Scarlet, Leo was, admittedly, rewarded with meaning once again, but their inevitable friendship wasn't instantaneous for obvious reasons.

    • Since they've lived through the same childhood that no one else in the household has experienced, they provide a connection where both can relate to each other and talk through their experiences, leading to healing the wounds left from their upbringings. Additionally, Valka is a very closed-off person who's frequently debilitated by overwhelming emotions that cloud her judgment and care. Leo's friendship with her allows Val to put her trust in someone and open up, and while not often around others, the relationship is progressive enough for Val.

Powers:

  • Tiger Characteristics – Though difficult to tell (because she is a cat), she has characterisitics and behaviors similar to a tiger. These include strengthened and enlarged teeth (especially canines which are anchored deeper in her skull), strengthened jaw muscles, an enhanced vocal ranged (i.e. Roaring, growling and snarling similar to a big cat's), and fur texture and stripes. Downside: (Vocal enhancement) Louder volumes will require larger breaths, and excessive use will leave her breathless. (Jaw) Overuse/Excessive use of strong bites will make her jaw sore and can even lead to her jaw locking up.

    • Evolved from father's power of bear characteristics, especially the teeth and roar.

  • Pyrokinesis and Fire Generation – Ability to generate fire and heat from any point of her body and manipulate it to her will. Contact is not needed to control the fire and the fire does not need to be from her self. Allows her to regulate her body temperature. Downside: She is not immune to fire. Producing it will cause burns (she primarily breathes fire because of the moisture of her mouth protecting it from burning).

    • Source of power not completely know. May be an evolution of her father's elemental power of air manipulation.

Facts and Trivia:

  • Val is my oldest character. She was the first one I ever made (and kept), going through the first edgy names of a 10 year old like Talon, Venom, Slash, etc. I love her she has changed so much.

    • Some of her past names are Runninghead, Meracle (then Miracle when I learnt to spell), and just previously, Red-eye (as I get my nickname from).

  • The name Valka means “battle slain” and “defense.” Meant to relate to “Valkyrie.”

    • This relates to her role reversal of going from fighting on the offense in war, to defense for her family. In both she is slain.

  • As I think of my characters as humans 90% of the time, I have facts for human Val, too:

    • Her tiger power is cooler when she's human because she has cool tiger teeth that's more noticeable on a person than a cat.

    • Her hair trails down her spine and can stand on end.

    • I was worried that Yellow Diamond would be too much like how I envision human Val. (I'm honest)

    • She purrs.

    • She uses knives as her main weapon in both close-combat and long range (throwing knives).

      • Her favourite knife is a trench knife.

  • Her character's been inspired by a bunch of other characters over time. Some include GlaDOS (actually why I changed her blue eye to a yellow one) and Tigress (KFP).

  • Once Cathe was born, she immediately gave him to her sister so his father, Arild, couldn't use him as a tool/heir for his army.

    • This affected Scarlet, who was essentially used as a tool. She guilts Cathe constantly because “Mom gave him away so he wouldn't become a tool. She had her to be used as her own tool.”

  • Her mother, Tori, was never truly trusted by Trench's mother because of a sort of omen she had of her upon her arrival. She let go of the distrust when Tori died in childbirth, but the omen made sense when Val later lead a raid and attack of her tribe during her years as a tyrant. (i.e. The omen wasn't of Tori, but her daughter.)

I don't really have other drawings of her (they're all on my old laptop), but here's the full drawing: sta.sh/01aldjwkprnz
