Yaaaaaaaaaaay!! Good job on it!

Just one thing about it though. Make him look fierce. Give him 'angry' eyes and open his mouth menacingly! Show his fangs! I imagine him looking as fierce as possible!
The reason why I am so particular about his face and emotions is because of how my story goes. The only time Matthias is a feral dragon is when his anger and hatred grows to a certain level. When that happens, he transforms from a bipedial dragon to a four legged, full blown dragon.

I see... well, so far this was a simple "character sheet", which requires NO emotions of any kind.
But I guess we both understand what you desire now. ^^ OK

Heh heh.... sorry for not making that clearer...

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-05-09 23:00:52 +0000 UTC]

Good, I will try that.

Can you please "confirm" all points where I did write "OK?", so I can finally stroke them?

And, here two other points when I compared to the beta version of KevinDragon:
1. Are the ears OK or should they be more like the one that Kevin has drawn or are mine also Ok?
2. Should the fings have a thumb like Kevin did it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

ReptileCynrik In reply to dracenmarx [2010-05-10 11:54:30 +0000 UTC]

And I am really happy about this version, too!!!!!!!!!
You added my corrections brilliantly. And it looks more and more natural and believable.
Good work!
You are aaalmost done............

Myanmor In reply to dracenmarx [2010-05-09 23:16:39 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for not being so clear about my points. Yes, everything you have put, except the face, is perfectly fine!

Now... For the other two points you have.
1. If it is not too much trouble, draw the ears like the ones that Kevin has.
2. No. Keep the thumb off the feral dragon's forpaws.

Thanks so much for doing this for me!!! You are awesome!
(Wish I could thank you in person....)

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-05-09 23:28:11 +0000 UTC]

Mh, the ears (1) had their individual style I think. I still think which ones are better.

And at (2) I had a typo. I mean a THUMB at the WINGS, not only a single claw. That was my request. What did you mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myanmor In reply to dracenmarx [2010-05-10 00:11:06 +0000 UTC]

1. What do you mean by "I still think which ones are better?"

2. Nothing... Nothing...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-05-10 00:59:22 +0000 UTC]

1. "My" ears look good and "Kevin's" ears look good. I like "my" ears a bit more. I will draw both, then switch. You decide then, even if I liked the other one more.

2. I will try it anyway. Maybe it looks better. We still can change back. I work much with experiementing.

Myanmor [2010-05-08 14:45:34 +0000 UTC]

Well here I go again....
As you said, make the front legs shorter. It will make more sense with his anatomy.
The spines on the back need to be longer and thicker.
Get rid of the extra toe on his back legs, but keep the claw on the the ditigrade ankle, just make it longer and thicker too.
The belly scales are good, I like it!
One last thing that was not on my correction list. The eyes need to be more human. Make them rounder, and keep the slit as his pupil. Try and make his face and eyes as fierce as possible.
You do not know how grateful I am for you doing this! Do you have anything you want me to do for you?

Thank you for your comment. I will update the picture soon and try my best. I have big fear to change the arms because they are so perfect at the moment and I fear that I make them badder since my drawing experience is very low.

Important: Please watch also my SCRAPS (Do this in the deviantWatch thing). So, I do not have to send you a comment everytime I update the picture.

Myanmor In reply to dracenmarx [2010-05-08 15:11:40 +0000 UTC]

Have no fear! You will do fine with the arms. You say you have little art expeiriance, but you have a talent for it! I'm am very impressed with the picture you have done!

I will correct that little thing on my watch list.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ReptileCynrik In reply to Myanmor [2010-05-08 16:10:47 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, for pressing myself between the two of you again.... the front legs are completely correct - anatomically speaking!
If Daniel would reduce the lenght of the arms, the proportions would be incorrect!!
I have a suggestion, though:
he could increase the lenght of the "paws".

Right now, we have humanoid "hands" here, with nice fingers. He could shange the "hands" into "paws" - with thick, longer fingers. Just like lions have ---> [link]

You see, the front arms should not be smaller, but larger! And adding some "paw like" hand would be advisable. I guess, THAT could work well! ^^

The thing with the spikes is right... I agree with you on that.

The eyes are quite fine this way, I would not change these. BUT it's your decision, anyway.
BUT Daniel could add an "iris" to the eye. A round one! I guess, that could do the trick.

I hope, this could help you both... I'm only here to help (and not to annoy)!

Myanmor In reply to ReptileCynrik [2010-05-08 16:21:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm not so sure how to describe what the arms look like. I wish I could draw a quick referece (beleive me, I can draw pretty well,) to show what the arms look like. A picture says a thousand words!
Thanks for the observation! It really is appreciated.

Myanmor [2010-04-19 22:50:28 +0000 UTC]

1. That sounds like a good idea. Keep the opposable thumb. However, I do want his foreleg structure to look more like an animals would. The forelegs in the line art look more like human arms then animal forelegs.

2. I understand that. You do your best dude on that!

3. No, you do not need to change anything in the picture.

4. You need to add the plates on his back. Each plate has a spine protruding up from it. Can you also add a back claw to his ditigrade leg? His toes are a little too short, you make them longer. Other then those details, you are doing a great job!
(Whenever I describe my character, I feel like the biggest nerd in the world... Lol!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-04-20 07:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I will correct these details

I will update this deviation in iteration 4 and will delete the other scrap then (because iteration 4 will have correct ink and colors).

About the plates on his back: Are they from shoulder till tip of the tail? How do they look like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myanmor In reply to dracenmarx [2010-04-20 10:41:42 +0000 UTC]

Make them look like spines coming off each individual plate.
Thanks! Can't wait to see it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-04-20 11:10:29 +0000 UTC]

And how many plates are it? Do they begin at the shoulders or at the neck? Do they flow until the tip of the tail or are they ending after the shoulders?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myanmor In reply to dracenmarx [2010-04-20 11:43:38 +0000 UTC]

You can have as many plates as you want. They begin at the base of his head, and go all the way down to his tail.

ReptileCynrik [2010-04-19 13:06:29 +0000 UTC]

Yaay, much better!!! Well done! Can't say anything else, really.
Thanks for mentioning my little help, hehe... that was not necessary.

Just one little thing:
The white parts are merging into the black colours, because you've used quite a soft brush (with much too soft round edges). Maybe, you should use a sharper brush! This way, the horns wouldn't "glow" in white but be very precise and clean.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dracenmarx In reply to ReptileCynrik [2010-04-19 20:45:39 +0000 UTC]

I had the idea to make a quick "test coloration" which is NOT the final basic color. Like hachure a sketch approximate - just very fast and just to adumbrate the colors. But it wasn't successfull as I initially thought, since it was not a quick'n'dirty painting. It cost more time than I expected. In future, I will not use my "quick'n'dirty" test-coloration, instead I will make the basic colors with the selection+extend, which is the clean way (and needs the name time).

COOL! The head is exactly as i hoped it would be!So are his legs.
A detail i forgot to put in is that Matthias is an anthro dragon. He walks on two legs. (It was made known in my stories, which you could not read, so no problem.
He is ten feet tall.
Abbs is short for abdominal muscle.
His scutes are as wide as his neck is, sorry for how complicated my description for that was...
Thanks again for doing this!

I am so sorry about all the trouble you went through... wish i put that there in the first place.
Before you recycle it all, I would like you to keep the same design for the head. I really liked that part! Also, keep the same foot and leg structure, just on two legs this time.
And to make you happy, I really liked those drawings! It is what I imagined him if he was a full dragon! They will live on in my favorites folder forever!

After I needed nearly the whole day to realize this detailed sketch, I am really stressed now... As an anthro I don't know how the wings look like and also my reference pictures does not work anymore. I need a whole reference set. Also half of your references were non-anthro ones. I really don't know how I should continue since my drawing experience is very low and I was happy to find a good reference picture. Transforming an existence image is very hard...

Dang... really wish I made mention of that in the details! I hate it that you are having all this trouble because of my carelessness! Blast it!
I cannot say sorry enough, and I will do my best to help you through this difficult transition!
My most humble apologies!

Hey, Myanmor... why don't you take THIS one as your "animal dragon form"????

Most people have an ANTHRO and ANIMAL form of their dragons!
Dracenmarx has done a sweet ANIMAL form... so, Kevindragon could do the ANTHRO form instead.
This way, both people did a worthy job!!!!
What you say?

dracenmarx In reply to ReptileCynrik [2010-04-19 20:40:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for that hint. It is a good idea to let Kevin do the anthro form while I can complete my animal form.

I am still very HAPPY that I had success, making the head and hands/feet exactly matching to the wishes of Myanmor, so Kevin can use my head and hands/feet as reference for the anthro form.

Thanks for all that you are doing for me!
I found a few things though that I would like to change now sice this is his dragon form: you can remove Matthias'opposable thumb, and make his forelegs more dragon-like. I also noticed that the shoulder of Matthias seemed connected to his wings. Please separate them from each other. And since he is a full dragon in this picture, please note that his size is much larger now. He is now thirty feet long, not includinghis tail. His tail is also thirty feet long. Each of his wings are 25 feet long!

Thanks for everything! Enjoy drawing!

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-04-19 22:18:29 +0000 UTC]

Hello.

Thank you for your correction suggestions.

(1) Mh... if you ask me, I would NOT remove the opposide thumb, even when he is in a feral form. I have seen many non-anthro dragons which have the opposide thumb even if they are walking (also in my reference picture). For example, the dragons of Ciruelo Cabral ( [link] or [link] ). Also, the animals in our world have an opposide thumb. For example, cats have an opposide thumb at their paws: [link] . So, do you really want that I remove the thumb?

(2) Since the wings are actually equivalent to a pair of arms, every animal in our world has either wings or arms. Feral dragons have usually both. So, in fact they have 4 "arms" and hence 4 shoulders. The 2 "shoulders" you have noticed accumulate muscles which are "neighbors". They are not connected, but are very close together. This was also in my reference picture. I will try to make them a bit separated and will see how other artists have solved the problem with the "neighbor shoulder" muscles.

(3) Ok, for the different sizes, I will change the DESCRIPTION (resp. its translation). I do not need to change anything at the picture, do I?

(4) And another question: Did I achieve all the points in your character description of "Matthias"? I believe I missed some points like the muscular body and the scutes which are as width as the neck (in my picture the breast-scutes are more width than the neck). Please tell me everything which I have still to do.

dracenmarx In reply to Myanmor [2010-04-19 12:47:07 +0000 UTC]

I will still complete this one as alternative version of your char, so my work is not in vain. A friend of mine has the concept that his fursona can change from anthro into feral and vice versa. So I will make a feral and an anthro version of Matthias. The feral version I like more, btw. And for the anthro I need to find a picture where a anthro dragon with your desired body structure is standing in profile, so you can see the head and feet from side (so I can reuse the graphics for his head and feet). Please help me searching this reference.

For a first sketch, it's pretty good! It is a "dragon", no doubt about it. A nice animal form of a dragon! ^^

First, I thought the wings are too short... but he hasn't spread them open yet, so it's possible this way. Yepp, it looks long enough to me!

The colours are appropiate. Dark grey (or black) always works with white or light grey. If he's supposed to be black, I would never colour it completely black, at all. BUT you didn't do it, anyway. You did well!

The anatomy is something to work on, yeah.
The muscles, which are kinda missing here, are the biceps/triceps - so, the muscles of the upper forearm! While legs are pretty well done, the arms need to be improved.

I really love the head design! His face is adorable. ^^
