I had the urge to get out a bat book and draw a whole bunch of Silverwing characters. They were fun!I know I left out quite a few of the other main characters, like Frieda and Luna and Chinook, but I tried to get a bunch of different species of bats that were in the series.
So, I'll try to make this make sense.
In the top left, the orange one is Marina, she should be easy to find. To her right is Caliban, a mastiff bat; he's the one with the droopy ears.
Side note - is Caliban banded? I know he was part of the group with the bombs, but I forgot if he had a band too.
In the other top corner is Griffin, the one with the black and orange patches.
The little black and grey one is Shade. The one with the huge ears in the middle is Scirocco. To the right of him is Goth, with the noseleaf.
And on the bottom is Java.
They're not really to scale with each other...

He was the leader of a group of banded bats that Shade and Marina encounter while traveling through I think it was the mountains.

The Silverwings do belong in a real species of bat that live in forests, the "Silver-haired bats." I found a picture of one a while ago.

I live in Montana, so maybe if I look hard enough in some forests nearby, maybe I could find some Silverwings. It is springtime so they might be returning from wherever they migrate to.

Now that I think about it...Goth and Java could make a lovely couple, despite their differences, the baby could be Foxwing size (and strong) with the features of Goth's kind (Phoenix and him would probably end up killing each other...again)
They all look so cute and I just want to snuggle them all

It would probably take Java a long time to rub off on him, but I never liked Goth paired with Phoenix for that exact reason, they hate each other

Maybe, but then again Java would be scared of him and of course he has a hundred others (well depending on how many survived the explosion) even a huge foxwing (or runt foxwing) won't argue in the face of a thousands teeth. (it also makes sense. Java sounds very Queenly).
Oh, that's why in that one picture you have them growling and about to pounce on each other. Phoenix isn't bad, but she's just too high and mighty, she treated him like crap and would most likely be the ruler.
Do you think she would hate him for being able to live again while she was stuck in the underworld watching bats chip walls?
But go GothxJava! now that would be amazing, and maybe Foxwings could be trained.

Yeah, I think she would definitely have something against his morals and his being a carnivore, but it's a really cute idea. Since they're both dead, (well, Goth was dead, they'd have all the time in the world to get along

that quite many bats in there, my favorite in that set are griffin and shade. I like shade's expression. he looks so happy to be there
