Description
(text up top + some more)Xan watched for several minutes more, as the strange creature painstakingly laid down penstroke after penstroke on the parchment, to create a perfect likeness of the bird in the cage.
Xan finally looked up at the creature. "How can you do that?" he exclaimed, breaking both the silence and the Listener's concentration. The creature turned it's head towards him, and he realized how loud his statement must have been to it. He added, in a quieter tone, "I mean, you can't see. How do you know what color it is, much less what it looks like?"
The Listener turned back to it's parchment. "The colors each have their own sound. Green, for example,"-- it gestured to the bird--"Whispers like leaves. Blue burbles like a stream. Orange and Yellow roar like fire. You may not be able to sense this, but a few creatures can. Bees, for example, enjoy red and purple because they hum much like their kin. Black is silent, where white is loud, and many a creature of the night prefers this silence."
So yeah, The Listener. A rare eaeonic species of blind, humanoid dragons that are almost completely dependent on their sense of hearing to keep track of the world around them. They have 8 pairs of ears, each to detect a different range of sound frequency, ranging from sounds too low for humans to hear, up to being able to sense the vibrations of different wavelengths of light. They are also able to pinpoint the source of the sound with superb accuracy. They are tall (up to 20 feet when standing) and have 6 long, gangly arms that have a fused set of metacarpals that create a "second wrist." They have no tail, and no scales or fur, just a leathery hide, and are usually colored in black and white.
Goddamn, that's a long description.
Anyways, this was made in photoshop in a simmilar manner to the painting of this thing.
Listeners are copyright to me. No stealing.
