Description
Well, school's over, so now I'll hopefully be able to finish more digital stuff.I've been dabbling in different coloring methods when I can, as my usual linework+color or dark bg + painting have been really frustrating as of late. This pic was originally a grayscale value painting, then colored on a separate layer, set to a clipping mask and soft light. I like how it turned out, but the value painting took a while.
This creature is an Eaeonic analog to a baleen whale, a large marine filter-feeder. It belongs, unlike whales, to the group of fish-like creatures designated as "fivejaws," for the two proto-maxilla and split mandible that make up the articulated jaw set. This species is commonly found in the arctic archipelagos, feeding on plankton around volcanic vent sites.
