Description
Mediterranean shark squidI know, i know, i wanted to show you some future humans, but i lost the pic and i am to lazy to scan and overwork it a second time (maybe later)
But, heres another awesome creature of my future story - the mediterranean shark squid. It developed from normal squids and adapted to the niche of sharks. In the future Europe will be flooded by global warming and turned into a gigantic area of shallow seas and a few rocky islands formed by the ancient mountains. The shark squid hunts in this tropic area (but honestly I'm not really sure what will be its prey).
The many tentacles turned into two chief tentacles, three smaller ones stayed for scanning the sea ground for prey. It has developed four strong fins, so it is a very active creature. The biggest subspecies is over five meters long. Some related squid species have developed into the successors of whales, maybe i will show this creatures later (but they dont have a place in my story yet).
Well, cool design this time! I really like the perspective and the white and blue-red colouring. I have to praise myself!
So, hope you like it! Maybe i find the time to upload the next pic in the next week!
Keep on watching and please comment!!!

This... this looks the closest to the creatures I remember dreaming about a year or two ago that I've seen so far... except they had actual jaws with teeth instead of the beak, had 4 tentacles in a cross shape I guess around their heads pointing forwards as well as a few smaller ones going backwards and some fins on their neck area.. and there were two kinds. One was blue like this and the other was red and stripey... I remember one was much larger than the other (as in the small ones were whale sized... I recall seeing one of the bigger ones (red) hung up on this structure that reminds me of the stands they use to launch rockets (but with buildings attached) )
But anyway! Awesome work lol

Amazing! What did you use to draw this? Is that an ink in the lineart?

and indeed you should praise yourself. this is something i have honestly always wanted to see, even when i was a little kid! it reminds me of a kraken. this thing is too cool to describe, i love anything with lots of teeth and no spine! and possibly the most awesome patterns of any undersea creature, too. i greatly admire your work, you are really a great artist! so does this thing swim by moving its' fins? or does it propel itself with a jet? or both?? really awesome, again, love the tentacle serrations!Β

well, thx again
the shark squid uses its fins just for stabilizing, it moves by a jet which shows into the different way than the jet of normal squid (i think you know, that they move backwards) So the shark squid is able to swim quite fast through the ocean and although it can fix prey with the eyesΒ

now i wonder, how did this creature swim? i mean, it seams to swim frontward, but how did it's evolution permit it?

MickMcDee In reply to THesla [2012-04-01 10:39:22 +0000 UTC]
hey, long time no see
it can move frontwards cause the propulsion switched its position - but there's a bigger secret behind it (it will be covered up in my book when its ready)

I've been obsesed in seacreature for quiet some time now and right now it's sharks and occtopuses/squids. You merged them perfecly. The markings and eyes somehow is the most eyecathing in this picture!

So is the Mediterranean shark squid the top marine predator of its time?

"Whoa! Don't get caught in the big blue ocean with that thing. Unless it was a small fry, then cook it up for lunch. It may taste like chicken. "
Nicely done. It's different than any other made up sea creatures I find on here.
