Description Biosphere Theta – Dsorudsad

Hi,

like promised I show you today an artificial biosphere. During the progress of developing the single biospheres I thought: “Couldn’t machines fill the niches of an ecosystem too?” . . . I needed some time to let the idea grow in my mind, but then I made some sketches and really liked them.
The result you’re seing is kinda weird, but really unique. All that “robots” have their origin in a runaway experiment of an high intelligent race. That race placed several types of construction machines on a mars-like planet to exploit the resources of it. The work took hundreds of years and finally ended ‘cause the intelligent race simply forgot it’s project or (what’s more plausible) just extinct.
The machines kept on working. They abolished metal to reproduce themselves, but in this progress they made little mistakes. “Sub-species” of these robots worked not successfully and were transported outside the gigantic building lot. And than it happened: like in Matrix the machines rebelled against their old program and developed by efforts and failures.
Thousands of years have past. The machines in the building lot abandoned for an unknown reason their job – but the “mutants” on the other side still work or “live”! They gain their energy from something I would call “Robot-Mojo”, it’s a blue liquid and quite similar to fuel, but extremely more effective. This liquid indeed is a conglomerate of billions of little nano-particles – how they work? Don’t ask me, ask them! Let’s finally come to the actors:

Narou – the “base” of the ecosystem. Like a plant it absorbs light with it’s solar-board. It adds that energy to minerals from the ground and produces the robot-mojo!

Barud – a little „herbivore“. By reaping and decomposing the Narou and it’s mojo it gains it’s energy. It’s really successful, cause the Narous are growing all along the surface of Dsorudsad.

Xau – a parasite-machine! It pierces the tanks of the several machines and sucks the mojo out of it. While all other machines on Dsorudsad reproduce by building better copies of themselves, the Xau lets the victim-machine build copies of it.

Okun – definately a predator! The Okun works like the Barud by feeding on Narous, but although it devours other consuming machines.

Prakou – a gigantic flying predator. The body is filled with hydrogen, so it floats above the surface and catches everything it can get. Really reminds me of something from Matrix . . .

Horkoth – the biggest machine on Dsorudsad, nothing is safe from it! The mouth moved from the top to the “correct” animal-like position - so devouring is more effective!

So, hope you like them!
Think my favourite this time is the Xau. Which one do you prefer? Keep on watching and please comment!

i like the alien machine ecosystem, it's unique.

Very fascinating concept. How exactly do they reproduce? Do their offspring grow, or do these machines simply assemble metal into replicates of themselves?

really good questions. making replicates of themselves would mean that they just copy themselves. but these "robots" are inside an evolution progress, which means that they grow out of a sowtware program which is able to add coincident mutation into the build-up-hardware-program.... maybe a product of an ancient organic species

So, do you mean they're born almost like how organic animals are born? Are they born as miniature versions of their parents and somehow grow? If so, can you explain how growth is achieved by a synthetic life form?

And about these mutations, does it also mean that these machines can evolve just as organic organisms can?

MickMcDee In reply to platypus12 [2014-11-05 20:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Well hard to explain. Lets say its just like you built up a lego machine : beginning with some simple "wheels" and basic structures which will achieve a higher structure by adding bigger and more complex parts.

Born is not the right word lets say split from the "adult"

Mutation is based on its software programs....

Hope it makes sense. My english is quite rusted

I was eager to see this one!

Narou is so adorable! It makes me think of Star Wars more than The Matrix. Prakou would be cool if it had that EMP thing that the machines in The Matrix had. It could easily stun its prey that way. Xau is actually pretty cool, very interesting idea of how a machine parasite would exist.

you were eager to this? so, do you have expected it?

You mentioned that you were making this one in an earlier post.

first off, its nice to see a different color sceme of the evolved robots. it appears this 'robot mojo' is very vital to the robots. Xau is my favorite one, not also that i can imagine millions of them sucking the mojo out of a robot like termites, but it looks like back when the race was on the planet, a some sort of material collecting mechanism.

well, thats right, the Xau were made for digging, but then their auger developed into a beak for sucking robot-mojo . . .

RawrReaper In reply to MickMcDee [2011-08-18 09:06:53 +0000 UTC]

how DO they suck mojo out of 'living creatures'?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MickMcDee In reply to RawrReaper [2011-08-21 12:30:18 +0000 UTC]

dont know what you mean 'sucking mojo out of living creatures', can mojo only be sucked out from dead creatures or what do you mean?

im saying how do they suck the mojo out of the robots?

MickMcDee In reply to RawrReaper [2011-08-22 21:06:27 +0000 UTC]

well, they pump it out of the tanks . . . thats the best description i have, hope it was satisfying . . .

Robot Mojo!
I had this machine-evolving concept once...but you'd be the one to pull it off spectacularly.

So The Xau is like a virus, reproducing with the host victim.

yes, the Xau reproduces itself with a victim-machine, like a virus
