Description
Just some colour practise, random dragon head used.I know i can't colour properly. several comments on the last thing i submitted helped point out what looked wrong about things. ~Gpotious especially with a little image she scrawled to help illustrate a better method of colouring.
I'm probably going to do a bunch of little things like this, trying to get a grasp on how colours should reflect and more realistically gradiate.
[link] Used this tutorial a bit, especially the part on greying out for shading.
This is gonna take some time...
Please please PLEASE, if you have any tips or ideas, please critique *points to the big critique button below* thanks

i have a tablet? use a hard and small brush, or use the pen tool, if you don't have one.

I've just discovered a tablet that My uncle left at my home and I'm not rly used to it yet ><
What's the brush diameter?

Draconigenae666 In reply to Flariron [2010-02-05 17:28:55 +0000 UTC]
depends on the size of the canvas. you should try to look for a diameter that looks as thick or thin as you want for that canvas. i think this was 5 - 9 px on a 500x500px canvas

Why? It's beautiful!

Draconigenae666 In reply to Emerald-Hearts [2010-01-26 23:08:11 +0000 UTC]
i can't ;_; i can't do anything involving interaction of objects and light, such as reflections, and i've been using a very rudimentary method for shading and i really need to learn how to use many variations of colours for my shading, instead of just going blacker... as well as using less saturated tones for most things.
but! thank you ^^

You should really try lineless sometime Or maybe put the light layer above the line art... that usually gets decent results for me. Not saying that lineless is better, but for me it helps a lot with learning lighting.
The shading looks great here. The only thing I see wrong is that each part is shaded without the parts around it making any difference--for example, the head does not cast a shadow on the neck, and there is blue backlighting on the jaw when the neck should block it.

Draconigenae666 In reply to Siveran [2010-01-26 18:45:45 +0000 UTC]
i'v e tried lineless, and failed X3 i need to get a proper coloursense before i can try lineless again or just do large pictures with really thin lines 8D
well, was thinking there was some glowys sortof frontish of thedragon, but figured i'd try drawing glowies another time. one of those things in my imaginaaaaation. actually, the horns have light reflected off the skin... theres green on them

Siveran In reply to Draconigenae666 [2010-01-26 20:06:49 +0000 UTC]
You're good enough with colors to do it. The hardest thing with lineless is that you have to make a background that allows everything from highlights to black shadows to stand out.
Glowies are hard for me; I don't know what to put directly behind the glow. And while yes, there is green on the horn, there's no matching green on the eye or tooth or brown... But that's being nitpicky. Major thing was the missing shadows.

i did a bit on the eye and tooth, but theyre such small areas that it's hard to make it look good. it's only a 500x500, anyway. bleh, i'm not up to doing lineless yet. i'll gradually work my way to it eventually, i think, but.
glowies ;_; theyre not /hard/ persay to draw, but i think they would have detracted from the point of this exercise...

hmm, maybe you might go away from that glowy white and use a brighter one of the basic colour for the reflecting parts. also how you shade is kinda smooth. I'm not sure but maybe it'll look better when you use some rough textures.

for the most part, the whitish areas are very light blue.
dun wanna use textures, wanna learn how to create texture on my ownsome
