Awesome tutorial! I was always terrible at 2 things... scales and shading (Especially with digital media). With tutorials I can get to around part 3 or 4, but once a lot of color or shading is used I always get stuck.
Your work is amasingly realistic and helpful!
For the neck how many shades of blue did you use?

how do you mean? wouldn't a crest be something on the back of a neck, not the body of the neck? this tutorial shows how i made scales at the time of it's creation... the location was just coincidence.

I use your tutporial at this time while drawing a picture and I have to say that it's really usefull and easy to understand, even if you use GIMP
