Description
The Okotoan Core is a large structure that exists thousands of kilometres below the centre of the island. Aside from lightstone deposits and The Core itself, visibility is zero. The Islanders believe that the structure and its guardian have existed for may millennia before they had even arrived on Okoto's shores because of all the hieroglyphs that have been found scattered about the vast underground cave networks. The Protector of The Core was said to be a being of immense power, having total control over both the elements of fire and earth. The myth surrounding this entity was what provided the template for traditional Protectors that are active today. The origin of the being is unknown, as is the purpose of The Core, though it has been hypothesised that if any duress it put on the structure it could potentially tear Okoto asunder. Indeed, when Makuta donned the Mask of Control a tremor caused by the corruption managed to reach The Core, and the island began to shake and crumble. At this present time The Core is still damaged, but thankfully it is still intact. However, because of all the chaos that ensued the guardian of The Core was re-animated, should any physical threats attempt to destroy it. Until only recently the name of this legendary Protector was unknown, but in the last few hundred years some Earth Villagers uncovered a new set of glyphs that may provide some insight into the origin of this being. From what they could decipher, they believed the ancient Protector's name was "Nepari", a combination of old-world terms for "earth" and "magma". Indeed this name was so fitting that the Villagers ended up discovering a new type of ore which they dubbed "Neparite", because of its fiery properties.
The Islanders may never meet Nepari, but they have faith that he is down there now, waiting until the very foundation of Okoto itself should come under threat.
