Description This is #70 "67%" on the 100 Word Meme.

I doubt anyone expected to see a Mecha Yongary anytime soon, so ha! To that one weirdo who predicted it, get a life.

I was watching Yongary the other night and just kinda decided to mech it. The arms I used are actually the third set I selected. The first set I dropped in case I made a bird-like mech and the second I took the hands off of and replaced with wicked-looking claws before finding out that Yongary has hands and not wicked-looking claws. Owch.

The appearance is carefully crafted to look somewhat exposed and incomplete to justify the 67% label. I even wrote a nice backstory.

History

As Korea is often wont to do, it "borrowed" ideas from Japan's anti-kaiju mecha program and adapted them to fit a robot based on their local menace, Yongary. Even though the first creature was killed with toxic ammonia, the Korean governments set aside their differences long enough to construct an anti-kaiju weapon in case another Yongary, or something worse, should appear in their nation. Their fears were justified when two new monsters, Reptilian* and Cyker**, fought a battle in a Korean city. Following their battle - and the death of Cyker - the Mecha Yongary was deployed (despite not having all of its beam-deflecting plating installed) to hunt down Reptilian and kill it. Despite being only at 67% (HA!) of what would be considered completed, it managed to further wound Reptilian and drive it away. Unbeknownst to the Koreans, Reptilian was a naturally peaceful creature and sought to avoid battle when possible. Their ignorance being quite blissful, the officials in charge of the mecha project deemed it unnecessary to finish Mecha Yongary, as it was mighty enough to defeat kaiju even at 67% (DID IT AGAIN!) status. This would prove disastrous in the Mecha Yongary's next mission when it was sent to assist Japan's Mecha Mothra in battle against a hostile Godzilla Jr. The Mecha Yongary managed to hold its own in a physical confrontation until Godzilla Jr.'s heat beam crippled the Mecha Yongary in one blast. Needless to say, the Koreans were unhappy and quickly sought to complete their robot for the next battle.

*Reptilian is the alternate name for the 90s version of Yonggary.
**Cyker is an alien kaiju who battled Yonggary in the 90s movie.

Weapons/Features

Seismic Sensors: One of the few unique (and useful) features of the Mecha Yongary is the set of sensors on its head (they appear like small plates) that allow it to detect kaiju borrowing underground, which Yongary was known to do.

Tracking Laser: Mecha Yongary's most useful weapon is a powerful cutting laser built into the horn on its snout. It can even hit fast-moving aerial targets.

Flamethrower: Built into the Mecha Yongary's mouth, it is a crude weapon that is almost useless against kaiju due to its incredibly short range. Only the Mecha Baragon's heat ray is weaker in terms of mech-mounted anti-kaiju weapons.

Hardened-allow Claws: Rather than use sharp claws or blades like most anti-kaiju mechs use, the Mecha Yongary has hard claws that are very durable and are better for ripping than slashing. This alloy is used in the finger tips and teeth.

Anti-Beam Ablative Plating: Though intended to cover the Mecha Yongary's entire body, it currently is mounted only on the chest, over its power source, the neck, where the crew sits, and part of the tail. The unplated armor can withstand physical damage well enough, but can't withstand energy attacks for long.

Compared to some of my other mecha kaiju, probably pretty easy. Then again, it's a crappy Korean knock-off Mechagodzilla, so maybe hard?

No kidding! I looked up Yongary after reading your comment and there's only a few results and a bunch of them didn't even have Yongary in them!

Still, there is some great Yongary art on DeviantArt even if there's not a lot.
