Description
EDIT : Please, if you dislike my version of him or want to tell me how he exactly looks in your fantasies or books, GO AWAY ! This is my version of him, okay ? I know egyptian mythology by heart since 1996 (so many versions and possibilities...) and you don't need to tell me how to draw him ! But constructive comments about the art itself & anatomy are always welcome.Yeah, Anubis again. But this time, I've got a good reason for submitting this : I was in Egypt this month (now, I haven't seen the pyramids !) in front of the Red Sea, and it was great !
AND I BOUGHT AN ANUBIS STATUE AT LAST !!! 8D (and a cute Bastet one, of course!)
I never imaged my mother would like him too... it seems it's genetic. O.O
So, I made a bunch of Anubis sketches and I choose the best among them. My personal fav is the one with Ammut.
And yeah, it seems he doesn't like that ceremonial golden painting on his eyes...
Anubis & Ammut belong to their country
Media : black pencil (+ Photoshop CS3 for their eyes, I admit...)

This interpretation of Anubis might just be my new favourite. Gotta admit, I never thought of him as a "caretaker" type.
Oh, Ammut, you silly, adorable hippo-croc-lion, you! Who wants a juicy, tender sinner's heart?

Thank you. Maybe he acts this way with Ammut only. She's her hungry, messy, silly baby pet after all.

Really that is the issue with myths of all backgrounds and culture. It changes to suit the person or culture that is bringing it to life. Very cool depiction of Anubis!

Brilliant!! I love how you've still kept his clothing and overall physical appearance true to Egyptian mythology and still looking as if he is from the period, unlike some interpretations I've seen, and yet you've given him a real kind of personality in the expressions. Excellent!

So glad you noticed that I've been highly influenced by the original egyptian paintings and that I tried to respect the period as well. I'm not against modern interpretations of him, but most of time, I like my gods in a more "organic" and old-fasioned style. Thank you !

You're very welcome, I also like the modern ones if they're done nicely, but I particularly loved the way you blended the historical feel with a sense of personality with this one

I like your version of Anubis. He seems more real for me like this cause you gave him several expression and outfits like he'd be like this in everyday life.
I especially like the hair, how you made it a little fuzzy
It's a good thing you added gold under his eyes in the versions where his hair is darker cause it attracts the eye to his. You've also played well with the different movment of the ears
To sum up, you've made him lively

Thank you. I've drawn of since 1995, I think (I'm so old dammit XD), so I tried A LOT of styles before defining him this way. He may be a God of death and everything : yet, in my opinion, it doesn't mean he should look soulless and/or lustful only (I rather see Seth as the lustful one). I enjoy that guy so much that I like giving him a more "human" side after all. Or a lively side, as you said.

I like the character you've given him and I especially like baby Ammut there.
Wonder what raising the little heart eater would have been like?

He's a little hairier than I expected, but that's got to be a good thing, right?
I simply adore the one with Ammut. Wanna huggle!

Aw, thank you. I like when my versions of egyptian gods look expressive and noble at the same time, and only wear fancy stuff in special occasions.
