Description On hindsight, this didn't turn out at all like I intended. Messing with colors, but I'm not sure this worked. Also used limited layers (painted over and merged down).

It seems wrong to submit mythological beings into "Fanart" or "Anthro" or "Original Characters", so Other it is. What strange categorizations you have there, dA.

This's for submission to a school publication themed "Myths and Monsters". The freshman orientation for next year is Egyptian-themed, particularly the story of Isis and Osiris, so at first I was going to paint them, but decided 'twould be too repetitive. Next best pair of that train of mythology was these two - everyone draws them fighting, so here's something a little different! I found it interesting that though Set is described in places as a white-skinned redhead, he's usually portrayed as dark (probably for the connotation of evil). Here he's, er, more of a carrot-top, I s'pose.

Just good ol' Photoshop, ~13h. Progress: [link]

I wouldn't have to wonder why you hadn't asked of me what satesh would even go for, so, for innit more, that he'd have lasted little long enough to be done for, anyway. this piece is a curious one, though, curious expressions they're wearing, I think.

It's beautiful! I love how instead of Isis and Osiris (I love them, but there is SO much) You picked the less popular story of Set and Horus. Horus has four children, all of them are Set's. Possibly a fifth Set carried himself. Gods are fun that way. Personally it's one of my favorite love stories, no matter how twisted it gets. It ends happily enough...Or will end?

blayrd In reply to Dragons-Chaotica [2013-11-19 03:19:25 +0000 UTC]

Or it never really ends?!! Yeah, mythological stories are weird and wonderful that way. Possibly more to the weird side.Β

Egyptian Mythology, much like Norse, has a bizarre certainty to it. Unfortunately you need to disregard third age Egypt mythos as its all corrupted by the arrival of Christianity and political motives. The end of Egypt doesn't seem to involve anything specific, it states simply that Ma-at will be overrun by chaos and will allow Nun to flood the world again, ending all. So the myths of the Gods are...done, for the most part, you just cannot fully end them because the world hasn't ended. Sort of like Norse, it has a set path, descriptions of what the Gods will do, and it seems they just continue doing what they are doing until Ragnarok.

It's such a weird concept. Humans are waiting for the passing of time, and yet things greater than humans seem to have it all laid out. But yes, wonderful and weird.

To all those wondering what animal Set is supposed to be - he has the head of an Aardvark and the tail of a scorpion. He was supposed to be in charge of chaos, which is a state of utter confusion and disorder. And chaos is not always a bad thing.

Exactly - I remember I had an Argument with my teacher about that in High-school. One of my favorite stories about Seth is the one where he saves Hathor from a raging Tidal-wave

well, Seth has more an ass head than a seth-head but that's good too. I really like their gazes : it's like they don't trust each other (wich is the case, after all, they're fighting each other) and Horus seems pretty pissed. Seth is ambiguous. he's so great !

Horus was represented with both sun crown & moon crown, it was said that his right eye was the sun & his left eye was the moon, then set god of evil & destruction ( represented as aardvark's head on man's body )tore Horus's left eye, so he was blinded!!!, his friend thot god of knowledge & wisdom (represented as crane's head on man's body) restore his left eye with his magic, Horus rewarded him with the left eye (the moon), that's why it happen to be that Horus was the sun god & thot was the moon god!! ........ "between you & me, i realize that you did Horus's injured eye in his right side, while its supposed to be his left side as i explained before!!! "

This is such a wonderfully drawn picture, and I hate to point this out, but you made one mistake: Set removed Horus's left eye, not his right.
I'm so sorry! This picture is amazing!

Heh, no need to apologize! It's been mentioned--and to my credit, I got it right in the research and sketching phase, but forgot to flip it back in the right direction after spinning it to and fro while painting. Durr.

Glad you like it anyway 8D

@ Falcolff & Blayrd: Set is a Salawa, a kind of Egyptian canine that became extinct about 3,500 years ago.
