First, thanks a LOT to ~Rambios . I feel rather offended by their comment, considering that I never actually draw my characters. :/
Other than that, a lovely piece. Great perspective, I really like how his tail came out. <3
Nice job with the sun glare, well done for not cheating and using a filter.
Thank you so much, I love it!

I'm sorry it was offensive I really did just follow the reference sheet as best I could.
I'm really glad you like it
Thank you that tutorial really helped a LOT

It's nothing against you. I just found their comment very offensive, considering how old my reference sheets are, and the fact that I never even have the time to draw my own characters. :/
Still, thanks again.

Lens flare!
Hmm... yet another case where I like someone else's interpretation of a character better than the interpretation of the original deviant. I swear that's happened with every deviant I've watched thus far (yes, even the "uber deviants" characters).
Suffice to say, quite nice.
FYI, your link to the sun glare tutorial is broken (it has a rogue dot ).

Don't be offended. It's more a case of interpretation than skill. For instance, with Shinerai's characters I've never seemed to care for his versions even though I'll admit he's got extremely good technical detail (e.g. he's a good artist), and yet on two particular occasions I can think of pieces where artists drew his character and I like their interpretation. One such piece was, in a manner of speaking, "artistically inferior" to Shinerai's artwork, yet I loved it just because it made his character so blasted cute! ^_^
As I said before, don't take this as an insult to your artistic skills. This has more to do with how a person "re-imagines" a character, whether it be a slight change in how their design is presented or a different take on their personality. Add to that the fact that I have extremely eccentric tastes, and what I like or don't like is a hit-or-miss prospect. The only aspect I can explain easily is that I generally don't like anything that looks too feral, something that pretty much renders 98% of the dragon art out there as "not my thing." O_o

I'm not worried about my artistic skills being compared, I just found it rather offensive that, with the way you worded your comment, it just sounded like "The original artist can't draw their own characters."
Now...I NEVER have the time to even draw them. That's why I got offended. Considering I haven't drawn any of my characters since last year.
I know that's not what you meant, but this is the internet. Just be careful how you word things so people don't get the wrong ideas.
Also, different interpretations may in fact be wrong. I believe that the only person who can TRUELY draw the character in the most correct way is the original artist themself. For no-one on the planet knows that character better than they do.

Which is why I used the word "interpretation" a lot as a way of stating that said views were different from the original.
Characters on DevArt get a sort of "fanart proliferation," where an artists character gets drawn by random other people about as much and in as many different ways as fanart from standard media. With fanart, it's quite fun to see the full spectrum of what people do when drawing other people's characters, since they're more apt to go absolutely crazy with how they draw it. Not to mention that styles and moods range from "sees the world through rose-colored glasses" all the way to "darkness, horror, and despair abound," and everything in between. ...though I suppose the extremes of that spectrum can be a bit scary to me.
So, no harm done?

'Interpretation' or not, it still didn't sound too kind. Not just to me, but to anyone else who may see a comment like that about their character. It puts them down wuite a lot and makes them think "Well darn, they think my characters can't be drawn well by myself." It's...not a nice feeling inside.
Just be careful what you say regarding other people's characters. All this can be avoided.
