Wow, this took a while, but darn I'm proud of it. This began with me wondering what the Mane Six would look like if they were colored like the breeds of horses we see in the real world. After a bit of speculation, it had to be drawn. So, going from left to right we have:Applejack: Palomino appaloosa
Rainbow Dash: Strawberry roan
Fluttershy: Cremello
Twilight: Dapple grey
Pinkie: Paint
Rarity: White

I know someone who would love this. The very original creator of My Little pony Bonnie Zachlere, she designed the first toys, but she wanted them to be realistic. However her co workers argued kids would prefer bright colors and they tested both kinds of toys on children and they loved the bright colors more.Β

I've been playing with this: Β www.jenniferhoffman.net/horse/β¦ Β and I found something interesting.
"Champagne horses have pink, freckled skin and eyes often described as hazel. When a black horse receives a champagne gene, its coat is diluted to a light, brownish grey which can appear to have a purplish cast due to the pink skin underneath."
That sounds like Twilight Sparkle's coat colour to me, it's just that she has a particularly STRONG purplish cast.Β

Very interesting input! It sounds like champagne could be a pretty good color for Twilight too! As for the CMC and Big Mac, I never really picked out specific coats for them lol. Sweetie Belle and Applebloom likely have similar coats to their sisters, and Scootaloo could make a good red-orange chestnet. Big Mac could also be a reddish-brown coat with some more draft horse-like qualities

Hooo boy I did this pic a while ago, but let's see if I can refresh my memory.
Applejack's a palomino appaloosa just cause the coloration's pretty close to her actual colors, plus I couldn't pass up the 'appleloosa' pun.
Rainbow's more of a 'just cause'. I was thinking of some colors that I hadn't included yet, plus I was thinking of RD's fiery personality, so red roan it was.Β
Fluttershy's a bit like AJ: similar coat colors, plus I couldn't imagine her with a coat other than yellow.
Twilight Sparkle had to be a dapple grey to me. I may have been thinking of her grey spots like stars, and it just rolled from there. Β
Pinkie Pie was another one who just had to be a paint to me. The spots and colors just seemed to match her personality very well.Β
Rarity was the toughest one to pick in my opinion. Looking back on it, I feel like making her completely white wasn't enough of a change from her original colors. If I were to remake this drawing, in theory, I may give her mane/tail a better color, or possibly just change her color altogether.

Honestly? You did a great job but not sure if I'm a fan of the concept.
For one thing, I feel the dull colors take away from their personality. Plus, these are horses yes, but equestrian magical intelligent horses.
I like the idea of their fur being colorful to reflect their magical nature.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I'm pretty sure the whole reason they gave the ponies bright and unnatural colors was because it'd be more eye-catching for young kids and their manes/tails could be well contrasted. I like your headcanon there too! Maybe the ponies of equestria slowly evolved brighter and more colorful coats as they become more sentient and tapped into magic!Β

Yeah. Plus, brighter colors helps make the ponies more distinctive and allows for more contrast.

I especially like Pinkie Pie's and, in the other one's , Applejack's coloring. 
Though I have to wonder what they'd call "Rainbow" Dash, if not by her color-sheme.

Hey there! I apologize for any misunderstanding here. When I say Rarity is a white horse, I'm referring to her coloration alone, and not her age. It's true that grey horses do become gradually whiter as they age (good point there!), however I meant to say that Rarity is completely white in the sense that she has no pigmentation in her skin, mane, or coat. Horses like this are white from birth, and do not change color. Thank you for pointing this out to me!Β

well i was just pointing what i've learnt about horses in all these years , but clearly i still didn't know much , i search it one the internet and they really live .Β
i thought white horses ( like peerages , unicorns ) live in these world when I was young , but then many people ( including so staffs working in horse riding school ) tells me that , only old age horses are pure white . so , that's why ''-
